Thank you Jeanne81532 I will have a look on amazon, I would love to live near the sea, sounds boring but Ive always had a fascination for it even as a small child. where we stayed on holiday we had a view of the sea and went to bed hearing the sea and waking up next morning hearing it. we also had a balcony on which we could sit on just look out to sea I was hopeing to catch a glimpse of the dolphins but never got a glimpse never mind hopefully next time I will take care gentle hugs
You sound pretty clever to me. Have a wonderful and healthy week.
Hi lisa I have a perching stool for the kitchen its very useful, I can no longer stand to wash up or stand to do vegetables. when I was ill the carers that I had coming in got me perching stool and 2 comodes back rest.I think its ocupational therepy that can come out to see you and see what help you need in the way of different aids. have a word with your gp 1st see what they say. When I was ill in bed for 6 months unable to walk very ill due to fibro my gp helped to get me differnt aids in place. I would ask your gp 1st see what aids you can get for free. take care gentle hugs
hows the cake baking coming along
Thank you for asking, It was yummy, hubby loved it, but it didn't rise much, used ground almond and coconut flour. Never mind great distraction and will try again another day. At least all the ingredients were super healthy.😀
You ought to see my victoria sponges they never rise and are that thin I can use them as frizzbees lol my cooking has never been my strongest point, Im more into designing gentle hugs take care
Thanks Meg, Jeanne andKaz. I do have a perching stool and lots of other aids to help, The perching stool used to be great, except I now have arthritis in my spine and both my hips and a couple of prolapsed discs. The only effective option left for me is to have my spine fused top to bottom. I'm also really tall so using the perching stool is now really uncomfortable as I have limited movement in my back so leaning forward with me knees pushed up against the kitchen units puts pressure through my hips and back.
It doesn't stop me from baking, just not as often as I would like.
Thanks for all the suggestions though. It just goes to show no matter what we want to know or need, there is someone on here who is willing to try and help. xx
Hi Meg, you could try adding a 1/4tsp of baking powder as a raising agent. Hope it helps.
Hi lisa I have arthritus in my spine and neck Ive also got a prolapsed disc so can understand how your feeling and where your coming from. I cant always use my perching stool so to prepare veg I sit on my sofa and do the veg in my living room where Im comfortable. its finding ways of making us more comfortable when doing different things so as we arnt causing ourselves even more pain and discomfort.Im waiting for an mri scan to see if Ive got have an operation on my back all we can do is find ways of making life more bearable for us. take care gentle hugs
Thanks Kaz.
Your right it's all about being inventive to find ways to be functional and comfortable. I've found a stool that slopes forward slightly and had rubber fitted to the feet. That way I can sit right up against the units without the pain in my hips. It's not very comfortable but it means if I want to bake I can use it for short periods of time.
I hope your scan goes well and they find some way to help you. Unfortunately I also have a condition called Elher Danlos Syndrome which affects me quite badly. It's a genetic collagen defect which means with the OA fixing the prolapse discs is not an option for me, hence total fusing.
Good luck with yours and gentle hugs also.
I also have arthritis in my spine but I'm quite short. I used to sit with my knees squashed against my kitchen units till I thought of opening the cupboard doors! Now more comfortable! xx
Hi Jeanne, Lisa and Kaz
Sounds like despite all your physical difficulties, you are certainly organised, very impressive. I am still able to move around the kitchen but sitting is problematic for me with lots of back pain, so tend to use lots of hot water bottles and special cushions. Oh the joys of Fibro.
All the very best for the week
Meg
Thanks Kaz and Lisa, comforting to know that we aren't all gourmet chefs. I did put baking powder in, but I think the eggs I used were slightly,
smaller than what the recipe needed, so may try an extra egg next time. It is worth persevering with as it was delicious. I think it was the vanilla pod seeds, coconut milk and organic cacao that made it so yum.
Jeanne I'm really envious. For so many years I cursed my height but then I grew to love it and now I curse it again. I, like you eventually realised that opening the cupboard doors would give me more space......and then I realised that the shelves are only 15mm from the back of the doors. Short of cutting out sections of the shelf where my knees would fit I'm stuck with the stool 😆
ha, I've just noticed the height comments. Grew...to love my height and short of cutting shelves. No pun intended honest.
Reading and knitting are my favourite distractions, though I do crochet as well, though not as often. I bake and cook, garden growing veg and flowers from seeds and cuttings, though hubby does the heavy stuff and I've just had a new light weight sewing machine, the other was just too heavy for me to get out anymore.
At least I can now get into the garden to do stuff, for months I was limited to only doing things out of a chair after breaking my ankle and foot, which in itself was another distraction, though not one I'd ever want to repeat.
You sound as though you are quite busy with handicrafts and gardening. It is good you can still garden, I find bending over too problematic for my back. It is great our hubbies support us in our endeavours.
Breaking your ankle must have been horrible, so glad it has healed.

That's funny you should mention that Christine. I have severe OA in my ankle following a bad accident some years ago and over the years its become increasingly painful and restrictive. Now I have it in both thumbs joints and it flares badly some times. With the hand pain and the fibro, I've completely forgotten about the ankle pain until somebody asks me about it.
I had a friend whose granddaughter was into self harm. During her counselling sessions it came out that sometimes she did it so the pain of cutting or burning herself would take her mind off her emotional pain. Distraction therapy I guess.
I think that's what Mindfulness technique is all about, trying to focus the brain away from the pain. I'm hopeless at visualisation but keep being told that it works for pain management, if only I could actually conjur up a picture in my head.
For me, cooking is my 'escape'. Even if I'm finding it difficult to do food prep as it's painful to hold utensils, knives, etc., I find pottering around in the kitchen being creative is great to take my mind off all the other crap.
laughing so much at the 'frisbee' sponges - just like mine! Even if I buy a foolproof packet mix, they turn out like dry pancakes. Same with Yorkshire puds - lawd knows what I do wrong
Ha ha! xx
