After reading some of the posts lately, I started thinking about what diversion tactics I use to block out the pain. It got me wondering what tactics you all use.
Apart from getting on with life as best I can, I do a few things to take my mind off it all. Doing simple crosswords, I don't have the
or patience for cryptic. Watching TV programs like Antique
Roadshow and watching movies. Reading novels, and going online to read articles. Finally reading and responding to this forum. Tomorrow I am going to attempt to make a healthy cake, wish me luck.
to help take my mind off things I love reading and replying to things on this forum. I love watching emmerdale coronation I watched a programme about sharks which was interesting.also I love grand designs I love location location with kirsty phil, I love creative programmes that kirstys done in the past. I love designing our home I choose the colours in our home and the look that I want in each room. I love reading magazines like Ideal home house beautiful. If Im up tp it I love doing word search, then theirs my lovely dog charlie he helps to keep my mind off things hes so funny loyal gentle hugs take care
I enjoy the company of my dogs and now the fine weather is here we walk down to the beach and stroll along the sand. I'm waiting for a backpacking windbreak to arrive so i can sit and read while the dogs dig holes and cover me in sand
My mind seems to go straight off any Fibro issue, whenever I get something else that takes over..usually another health issue..eg: I have pretty bad OA in my hands, right one especially, the pain and discomfort is really bad in winter-now for us in Oz.....anyway that issue takes over my mind and suddenly all my Fibro issues fade... sort of....for a time anyway..,apart from that..just love anything to do with computers especially desktop publishing...can't hold a book so reading is out...however..I do out my kindle on text to so speech...and away I go..so I'd too say sort of reading too.....:-) xxx
Poor you, I know what you mean by pain in the cold. Desktop publishing sounds really interesting and skilful. How did we ever cope without kindles? Stay warm.
Hi Meg, like a few others, I find reading a great distraction, books, magazines and my kindle. Also tv; I like dramas particularly thrillers. And radio plays too. And my three cats who will curl up with me on the sofa when I'm feeling 'hurty'. Jeanne xx
Hi meg I love phil they are really funny togeather, Ive just bathed my smelly dog hes been in kennels while we were a way away for a week at the sea side. I found listening to sea helped take my mind off alot of things including fibro I love the sound of the sea, its so relaxing. just wish I could of canned the noise and brought it back with me. I would love to live near the sea. gentle hugs take care have a good week end
I like to play Candy Crush and other logic games on my phone like Flow Free. When I have the energy I like to be in my garden and get down to do the weeding. On a sunny day drive down to Brighton and enjoy the seafront. x
Hi, like many others I love to read and our pet cat and gecko always brighten my day and make me laugh, Id also love to get a dog but unfortunately have to wait until I can move somewhere with a garden, instead of a first floor flat,
I enjoy gardening too (when I feel up to it) but thats on hold for now with the living in a flat, oh well ay,
I also like to watch films and tv series, usually with a hot water bottle, but I also find creative things like knitting and crochet when my hands aren't hurting too much,
Hope your cake is nice, baking sounds a lovely distraction!! x x
hi I like knitting to but I can start off with 20 stitches and up with 10. I dont know how I use to do it. I have tried baking cakes but my victoria sponges come out that thin they are like fizzbees. so I do word searches read magazines watch tv and cuddle my dog. read reply on this forum I also use to love gardening but leave that to my husband now as hands arnt too good gentle hugs
Apart from the dog I use relaxation CDs and scented candles. Reading tends to be my salvation in the middle of the night when sleep refuses to visit me. Long soaks in the bath with a bath bomb and some gentle music - heaven until I get too wrinkly!
Hi bee70 Ive just returned from a weeks hol by the sea. it always cheers me up and lifts my spirits to be near the sea the sound of the sea I find is so relaxing andd uplifting gentle hugs take care
Thank you everyone for your posts, I just loved reading them, what a wonderful group of people you are, seeming to find lovely ways to zone out. Animals, books, media, games (I am a big scrabble fan), crafts, baths and the sea side seem to come up trumps.
Haven't made the cake yet but today is the day, it has weird ingredients like coconut flour etc, so not sure about it, but nothing ventured nothing gained.
I watch TV,come onto this site, play games online or if I'm up to it I love to bake. Baking is probably the one thing I love to do more than anything else, but the effort of standing can make it difficult.
Hi Liisa, I know what you mean, frustrating isn't it. Just make a trial cake, tastes delicious, Hubby loves it, but it didn't rise so much, must be the almond meal. Now I am exhausted but it took my mind off things for a while.
Desktop publishing isn't really skillful I dont recon..but it's soo interesting and I can do it with only 2 fingers if I have to..yay...just love making cards for all the different occasions and putting friends and family photos in them...sometimes tooo funny..I remember once putting my mums face on every flower in a vase in a card once.......pretty eerie, but she loved it.,saw the funny side..it can be challenging at times depending on what I'm doing..BUT IT SURE TAKES MY MIND OF FIBRO ISSUES,,,for a while.,,I'd say anything that we can do that we love would probably take our minds elsewhere other than that Fibro pain.....it's bearly 5pm...a good day...sunny day today..yay.....was -4 Celsius to 10 Celsius today, but not windy.,quite frosty earlier on, very sunny..a good winters day..:-)xxxx be blessed Meg have a lovely day...couldn't like without Kindie xxlol..
Hi believe you can get recordings of the sound of the sea. We used one for my dad's funeral 12 years ago, and it was from the library of music that the undertakers provided. Maybe look on Amazon? I am lucky enough to live near the sea in Eastbourne; I can see the sea from my bedroom window if I look sideways to the left. Not close enough to hear it. Jeanne xx
Hi Lisa, I can thoroughly recommend a perching stool for the kitchen. I don't know how I managed without mine. I use it when I'm washing up and when I'm doing food prep etc. You may be able to get one through OT dept at hospital, I bought mine from a disability aids company online. You do not need to pay vat if you are disabled. Good luck. Jeanne xx
