Does anyone else have it where your legs/knees feel like you have done excess excercise the day before?
My knees ache like hell and my legs feel like the muscles have run a half marathon (OK maybe 7 miles) the day before, when all I have done is take the dog for a gentle walk.
By the way my chest/middle spine is really painfull at night at the moment.
I get that terrible muscle pain in my calfs everyday. If is such a horrible pain. How do you manage it I find I am taking codein everyday for it.
I am not having pain as such, just a terrible ache just like I have over excercised.
If I take Co Codamol I will end up asleep all day and really get nothing done, not that I am able to do so at the moment anyway.
I still work as a nurse on a busy ward. I work 12.5hr shifts, my hips and knees ache during the shift and I can't stand still for long. I click up 5 miles walking in a shift. However the next day everything ceases up, and is so much of an effort. My thighs and knees are really painful after these days, but love my job 😁
Sotty to tell you but yes thats typical - It feels like your legs have lead weights on them. The compression in the chest also - its the inflammation - sometimes it feels like someones standing on your chest,
So how do you cope at work the next day?
I only do a max of 2 days together, and have a very supportive team, who help with things I struggle with. I think 💭 n at an advantage that my team have a basic understanding of AS. Couldn't do it without them. We swap jobs and I do something less challenging such as doing blood pressures. Diazepam 2mgs helps when the muscle spasms around the damaged areas is really bad 😁
I teach, which is not ideal when it is like this.
😏. Sorry, don't know what to suggest
Wasn't expecting you to have a suggestion
I was just wondering if this is "normal" it has been going on for ages now.
I used to be quite sporty and knew why my legs felt like this in the morning, now it is just "because".
Since ASA is systematic, it is worse than other types of arthritis. As you are learning, it affects so many body parts, joints, muscles. My physical therapist explained that the vertebra "holes" where the nerves are traveling to the legs are closing up, not all the nerves are going through. As a result, the leg issues.. Another issue I have is psoriatic arthritis. My hip tightness is causing walking issues. I am receiving tx for shoulders and hips and have received an exercise for the thorax. My suggestions: Consult a physical therapist. Sleep flat on your back with a shallow or no pillow to keep the spine as straight as possible. These help me. Google info....lots of helpful information out there. Good luck to all on this post. Keep moving...that helps, too.
Yes. For the past 12 years I've had considerable fatigue in my legs. When it started, my rheummy said it was fibromyalgia. Idk if that's correct... Primarily, I feel it in my larger muscles. But it hits many muscles. I also have back pain that shoots down my legs from the AS. And I get generalized fatigue--exhaustion, When it comes together, I feel I've run a marathon up stairs. It comes and goes. When my legs really bother me moving, stretching and getting the blood flowing helps very much. I find short walks very helpful..
Hi Ridley, I always get a heaviness feeling in May legs & they go very shakey mainly at my knees it's a horrible feeling.
I have a suggestion for you to discuss with your Dr. Ask them about SI joint injections. I got them for 20 years and they were miraculous. It really took care of my lower body pain. Sometimes it worked for a year or more.
I have to earn You, this as a long term solution has consequences. Osteoporosis is likely to take hold. Just beware! For me, it was a quality of life thing and I have zero regrets.
I have had SI Joint injections done under X-ray, and unfortunately they didn't work. I was diagnosed with Sacroiliitis at 23 then AS at 25, it has started to effect my nerve endings to. I also have other things going on so that doesn't help either. Thank you for suggesting the SI injections though really appreciate that.
That sucks, I really had hope for you in that regard. Lower body aches and fatigue can be even more debilitating than the back. If you can't pick up your feet, you can't walk.
I wish you the best!
