Hiya ladies
Can anyone help me with this question.
I am 49 and going thru menopause. I had this fibroids of 6cm last year. Heavy bleeding but since January bleeding has calmed down and just brown light period. Since two days now I'm having lower dull abdominal pain, bloating gas. Nausea. I do suffer from gastric problems since a young age tho.
I Went to doctor he did a scan on my abdomen yesterday but couldn't find anything and actually he says the fibroids have shrunk to 2 cm. And I ask him to check ovaries and he said ovaries is fine too. No cysts..Any idea if this pain is from the fibroids dying, as he says they do with menopause? I'm so worried. Doctor even gave me a picture of my scan to put my mind at rest.
Any advice would be.much appreciated.

You have nothing to worry about - I had 7 fibroids at one stage and the largest was 20cm in diameter - the equivalent size of a four month foetus. I had to have them surgically removed. Anyway, that is beside the point - fibroids shrink when peri/menopausal. I have a couple of fibroids now which are 3cm and nothing to worry about. Your abdominal pain is all part of the process sadly and it will pass along with bloating/gas/acid reflux. We've all been there. Trust your doctor and don't get too anxious - as soon as you calm, the pain will subside and it will all pass. If you are still not re-assured, ask for an vaginal pelvic scan. I have these annually - just had one in fact which shows exactly what your ovaries and endometrium are up to. I hope this has helped and try not to worry.
Thanks for the reply Sophie.
I will see how the pain goes and if it's not better next week i will go for a vaginal ultrasound scan.
Thats great yours have shrunk so much, specialists like it when that happens, because it means your down on your oestrogen which is firboids food so they shrink as a result, Your talking about a necrotic fibroid which, is a dying fibroid which i had, normally its during peri that fibroids grow rapidly due to more oestrogen being in the blood, which is what puts us at risk of them growing more and this is what drs dont want, mine grew to 8cm from 3cm, but ive know some at 16cms and had no problems with them, but some like mine, cut its blood supply off, so the fibroid inside itself dies, putting you in immense pain in your back, hips, womb, and you bleed, you also get low grade fever, makes you feel like you have very bad flu,due to the chemicals from the dying tissue going into your blood stream, so you would know, you would not be able to get out of bed due to pain, and over the counter pain meds will not work, and moving makes pain much worse and then you bleed more, its not like a period bleed so, when its necrotic you have to rest, severe pain lasts for around 12/24 hours, then it dies down, can take about 3 months to subside completely, they scan you to check if its settling. Your fibroid is not dying, its shrinking due to its food supply being cut off and thats what the drs want to happen, so its a good sign, what is happening is, due to hormone depletion it causes all soughts of problems with digestion, bowels weak muscles in the bladder and womb all of these are housed in the pelvis, and low hormones will aggrevate all of those organs including the womb, so it feels like its causing a flare up of the fibroids, it is but in your case now its not, its good news really................just keep an eye for any unusual changes as normal.
