First period after myomectomy

Hi all

It was 2 weeks yesterday since I had my open myomectomy and this morning I woke with the worst period pains ever!! 😫

My tummy hurts so much particular at the sides of my scar and my back....if it hurt before, now it's seriously hurting!!! Is this normal??? Did anyone else experience this? Is it a one off because my op is still fresh or will my period always be like this from now on? I'm in agony and keep bursting into tears 😪

Thanks

oh wow, u poor thing, mayb u can call a nurse.

i started bleeding the day after surgery and next period was 5 weeks after. Mine have not been painful so can't offer any advice,, sure someone who has been in the same situation will be around.

Thank you. I've sent an email to my consultant to check. Hopefully it's just because its fresh after op. Mind you my friend who had a c section told me that now when she gets her period she has terrible back pain due to the epidural they gave her.

well thats goood you have someone to contact.  hopefully it will just be the 1st one that is like this. I was dreading my 1st one, and it happened the day after the surgery while i still had the catheter in , so was very ackward. So far these 2 have been better than the heavy ones i had b4. They used to be painful but then started taking apple cidar vinger everyday for a year, and the pain eased (just a splash of vinegar in some water and down it lol)

I think I would have preferred mine straight after surgery as I was dosed up on strong meds lol

With a catheter in though...eek!

Fingers crossed then.

Thanks

Hey, I had a myeomectomy last year. If I'm honest my first period was very light and a total breeze, however my seconf period was 14 days of agony exactly as you described. I think it is normal, but I totally sympathse it is not fun. However each time after that I think it just got a little less painful. It shouldn't get any worse. Just sorry to hear that you're suffering.

The good news is it should ease off a little. I hope that helps x x

Thanks so much Bek. I used to suffer from really painful periods when I was younger then they got a bit better. The last few have been bearable but this has knocked me out. I've been in bed all day. My back feels broken

Fingers crossed they get easier.

Sorry to hear that you are in a lot of pain.Have you  tried a hot water bottle ?

I had many painful periods when I was younger but I can honestly say that is one advantage to having a hysterectomy is saying goodbye to your periodsI.

xxx

Yes I have to use a heat pack twice a day anyway as I have some blood that has collected behind my scar and formed a lump

Hopefully it will all rectify itself.

X

I agree with Theresa. A hot water bottle was really helpful and I'll admit I relied a lot on painkillers.

It is a big op and your body needs time to heal and recover. Just look after yourself and don't over do it x x

Ok thank you Bek. I've been taking regular painkillers so hopefully I will be ok.

Hi there, I hope by now you are having much better periods.

I had the very same issues with my first period after myomectomy and was so upset with my doctor has I thought things would get much better after the surgery instead of getting worst...however, things did get better with each monthly period.

Sooooo so happy I did my myo.

Good day

I have done the myomectomy on the 28 of November 2016,,since then I haven't gone to my periods,is the anything I must be worried about...

Hi good day,

Your monthly periods should continue to come as usual,

Didn't you have a December period at all ?

Did you have in November ?

Not sure what's happening there, did you speak with your GYN ?

I went for my check up after the operation and my gyn said all will be well and I will see my period but up to now still no period...

Yes, you are absolutely right.

Had my myomectomy 20/12/16. started bleeding yesterday 4/1/17. initially I got scared, dark red and the pains ? Oh my! Hurts so bad, am using a hot water bottle and just lying in bed. My 1st check up is tomorrow.6/1/17. hoping to discuss all with my doctor, as am out of pain killers.

Keep strong you all, it's not Mickey Mouse stuff sometimes, but it's all for good in the long term. xxx

Hi..

I had my myomectomy 2 weeks ago and today is the second day of my period. I'm experiencing same as you and it's totally awful. When I thought after surgery the heavy flows and pains will be over.

Did it get any better? What can I do? Even sleep is eluding me,I'm being careful not to take too many pain killers .

Thanks

Hi everyone ,

I'm in exactly the same boat . I started my period yesterday and it's the worst pain ever . It's really dark blood and lots of it and the paracetamols aren't taking the pain away 😩

I'm four weeks post open myomectomy yesterday . Had a really hard recovery and now this. It's been the worst experience of my life

Hope your all recovering well!

Best

Lizzie

Hello,

I had my myomectomy done 11/14/2016. Two weeks after I also got my first period, no period in December, and just got my second one two days ago. These two have by far been the worst cycles I have ever had.. Feels like I am having contractions 😩. Calling my Dr so as the office opens to set an apt. Hopefully this is all a part of our healing process ladies 💕

Hi everyone,

I had my myomectomy on 11/10/16. Today is 10 weeks since surgery. The week of me surgery was supposed to be my period if you went by my birth control. I bleed very lightly the 2 weeks following my surgery. My doctor let me go back to work sooner then expected because i was doing so well. One day back at work and i started bleeding very steadly. it was to much for a pad. After talking to my doctor she said that i may have done to much and hurt myself. so she put me on some medication and said that if it didnt let up i may need another blood transfusion. I have had 3 prior to surgery. it let up. the next few weeks was light spotting her and there. at one point i only had the brown discharge (sorry to be graphic). Now month 2 i am about a week away from my period if you go by my birth control, and i started bleeding again. It is very hard not to get emotional about it. I really want to go back to a normal life. My doctor said that i still may need a hystorectomy but we will wait and see how my recover goes. I havent had hardly any pain. I get what feels like llite cramping if i stand to long, but it is the dark red blood. some one please tell me that my life will go back to normal soon.
