Has anyone been granted a 'fitness to work' whilst in a cast and non-weightbearing? I am finding it difficult to get doctors to work alongside me but I am unable to continue without any income anymore. I have been in cast for 8 weeks, 2 weeks in backplaster and 6 in cast since operation. Due to have appt on thursday for cast removal, but even then I am unsure about the process from that appt to walking and how long the process will be. I am struggling financially and therefore mentally due to stress etc. only plus side i can see is at least I'm not paying for fuel atm... but the rest of the bills have to be paid for and I dont get sick pay
Anyone else in this predictament. I am awaiting a phone call from the GP regarding my fitness to work and hoping for any guidance, but it seems extremely likely they will say No before the appt at the hospital.
So very sorry for your predicament. I have read some folks lose their jobs - just such a tough injury and really life altering.
I had a bimalleolar fx and surgery was 7 weeks ago and now in a boot for another 7 (though i have an unhealing incision so foot is up w/ no boot right now).
So my surgeon asked me what I did for a living before he made the call on how long I need to be out of work. It was 12 weeks so I was schedule to go back 10/17. But because of this new development- it has been pushed back to Nov 1st...so for me 14 weeks.
Do you have a scooter? I know some folks can go back earlier- but just depends on how your MD feels about it and what you do for work i would suppose.
Again- so sorry for your situation. I hope that your GP calls you soon and you can work out a good compromise.

It was 5 months before i could return to work after my surgery. I work in a call centre and work were keen to have me return but the ohs department were unhappy with me returning until I could exit the building unaided as I worked on the 3rd floor. I also did a phased return working up to my full time hours. It depended on which doctor I spoke to at the surgery as one actually said to me how much longer was I intending to be off as it seemed to be dragging on a bit!!! Tell me about it, I was climbing the walls stuck indoors. You don't want to go back too soon if it's going to set back ur recovery and one of the Ortho doctors told me not to rush it. I was exhausted even working part time to begin with. I'm sorry for ur situation and hope you manage to work something out as I know too how stressful it can be when u still have bills to pay but reduced or no income. Is there any help the dwp could give u, like statutory sick pay? I think it's something like £80 a week.

Para mí ha sido un proceso tan desesperante. Cuando firmé un contrato de arrendamiento en una ciudad diferente para empezar a trabajar, me hice una reconstrucción total del tobillo. Ha sido doloroso con 26 clavos, tornillos, placas y todo lo demás. Ahora mismo es un malestar extremo y atrofia.
Obtuve cuatro sesiones en casa a través del seguro, pero no cubrieron más. Supuestamente debo ir a una clínica (paciente externo) que cobrará sustancialmente. Todavía no puedo manejar hasta diciembre.
Normalmente caminaba de 4 a 6 millas al día. Ha sido un desafío. Madre soltera tratando de hacer todo para hacer feliz a mi hija. No soy una mamá de fútbol, sin embargo, trato de meterla en actividades divertidas como Anime, Club de Ajedrez y Club de Matemáticas.
Creo que tomará tiempo sanar. ¡Todos mis mejores deseos y apoyo! A veces me siento desesperada y sola.
