Flashing arcs in left eye for 10 years

I got hit in my eye 10 years ago. A few days after that I started to see.flashes all the time when I blink amd woth eye movement. I've been to 4 retinal doctors and nobody can find anything wrong. All say vitreous traction. None will offer me treatment. I feel I camt deal with the hundreds of flashes I see everyday anymore. I tried but it has disabled me. Please answer if you can.

Morning Lori

It seems a lot of people suffer with flashing lights, floaters and vision going static like or shadows etc. myself included and unless they say it is something to do with the retina they don't have an answer for it unfortunately. I have searched in vain to find answers i have been seeing an opthalmologist for a yeear now for something else and he can't tell me why i experiance any of this. Good luck.

Have you seen a neurologist to rule out spasms in nerve or other neurological issue?

Are you in London? Have u heard of Moorfields eye hospital?

Hi Jane

I am in Cornwall, i have heard of Moorfeilds and have a whole host of problems which I have seen specialists down here for to do with my eyes (I had a squint and ended up having three operations as they didn't work and i am now left intractable double vision and have to lose the use of the vision in one of my eyes. Intractable doubel vision isn't unheard of but is very uncommon and has no cure) i am still seeing the consultant now for it and have explained all this about the light flashes etc. and he just doesn't know. The two consultants i have seen down here have both worked in Moorefields and are the best at what they do. I am just one very unlucky person.

Hi Jennifer

I would still request an appointment atMoorfields as things change so rapidly and they may be able to help you. I kknow London is a long way from Cornwall but........

If u are receiving benefits financial help can be givenwith fares, hotel etc.

I have been offered one and i have said if we are no further forward in say a years time then maybe then i will look into it. I have seen two top consultants. There is a lot of background work being done on me I think as it is very unusual what I have and I don't think it will just go by the wayside. Let's hope I can get an answer. Thank you for your replies. xx

Have you also seen a neuro ophthalmologist?

Yes I have seen two, my main one sent me to see the other not for the flashing lights but the intractable double vision they both have just said what is going on with your brain!

Perhaps now is the time to see someone at Moorfields?

Yeah if I don't get anywhere I will, I just hate hearing I don't know, I don't know why your three operations went so wrong when it should have only been one I don't know why you have intractable double vision I don't know why the problems you have with your vision are there and hearing that again I think I would scream xx

I understand. Hs happened to me several times. Don't let it get you down.

Perhaps write to a private ohthalmologist for an opinion.

Have u been checked for any auto immune diseases of the eye?

xx

I have gone private and NHS and the consultants are the same don't get me wrong my consultant is so lovely and very very good they just describe me as unique. What sort it auto immune diseases? X

I really feel for you. I currently have flashed in both eyes due to a PVD and it's so frustrating. They simply say that this is something I will get used to and that there's nothing they can do to make it stop. Mine are worse in certain lights and I notice them more when I'm focusing or not moving around. It's very stressful having eye problems isn't it. I am convinced that feeling stressed and anxious about these symptoms makes them more noticeable, so I am trying to work on managing my anxiety which has reached chronic levels. I'm sorry I can't be any more helpful than that. Hopefully one day they will develop a treatment that stops these irritating visual symptoms. Take care x

JENNIFER

I sent you a PM. I mentioned auto immune so the drs may exclude it.

Thanks Cara. I really tried dealing with the hundreds of flashers I get everyday. 10 years is ridiculous to deal with this. I can't read, watch tv without multiple flashes. Now they happen just walking from light to dark. I think I just need to sue at this point. The doctors that is. This type of tear or partial pvd is fixed in other countries. Not the U.S. though.

It's the same story here in the UK. If they can find a tear in the retina then they will repair it. I have a hole in my retina that's been there for years and that hasn't been repaired because they say it's low risk compared to a tear. I now have PVD and they say all they can do is monitor it to see if it causes any tears. They say I will get used to the flashes, but obviously this might not be the case if you are still noticing yours ten years later. I know how disabling it can be. Prior to these issues, I used to enjoy reading and I have not been able to work either as I worked on a computer all day which is now not possible. I really hope you manage to get some kind of resolution to this in time. Take care x

Yes. It's been a nightmare to deal with. How long have you had your flashes and how did they start?also, are you myopic? My injured eye is very myopic, which is prone to problems. I would rather be blind in my problem eye at this point myself. How many flashes do you see per day. Mine start the minute the sun comes in my room, even with my eyes closed.

I have only had my flashes for a few months now they just came on gradually and then got worse. It started in my peripheral vision in one eye and then before I knew it I had them in both eyes along with floaters. I can't get away from the flashes, they are there all day and even when I close my eyes. I find that if I am busy walking around etc then I don't notice them as much. They are also worse in certain lights and in the dark. They are there all day long though and drive me crazy. I have always been near sighted and this does increase the chances of other eye problems. Unfortunately, they just can't do anything to stop it. I'd there's a retinal tear, they'll give laser treatment for that but having read some other feeds on here it seems some people have developed problems such as flashes from such treatment so I guess you can't win!

It's so horrible,.no matter what causes the flashing. I've never been a negative person in my life, but this has disabled me. The doctors.don't care.if patients become suicidal either because of this condition. I'm trying to save my life, and I'll go and raise.awareness for this if I have to. I am threatening bringing the news stations in to my next exam. I am a 3 x.Guinness World Record Setting artist and the news knows me here. It seems that the only way to get people's attention nowadays is.to sue and or cause.a.stink. it's so very sad. I've read countless stories of patients being treated for floaters or fov surgery. And they can't do this for flashes? For 10 years? Sorry, I have to vent i.just feel thst this is.such bulls*t sometimes trying to live with this!
