First of all I am a 73 year old male. I have had both male and female, young and old give me medical care. I had my cystoscopy exam preformed by a young female Doctor and female Nurse. They were both extremely professional. It not all about your penis. GROW UP!!!
My partner is 53 and recently had a flexible cystoscopy. It was the worst experience of his life.
He got a secondary infection and was rushed back to hospital three times with suspected sepsis. Three months, five courses of strong antibiotics later and he still has the infection. The doctors have said that it’s e coli, but the truth is they don’t know!
The specialist said that secondary infections are not common, but serious when they do occur. The doctors however, say that they are common!
They first attempted the cystoscopy under local anaesthetic, but he found it too painful. There was also a large bluebottle flying around the operating theatre!
This was a private hospital that the NHS contracted treatment out to.
The second attempt was done under general anaesthetic. It was still very painful, when he came round and couldn’t pee properly for three or four days.
Thankfully they found nothing, he just has blood in his urine!
Yes I agree with Ian. Im a 44yr old male and had this procedure done on yesterday. I went in nervous and nit really knowing what to expect, but the nurse made me feel at ease telling me what to expect during the procedure. She even showed me the scope. The only side effect Im dealing with is frequent urination and a little burning they say could last up til 2 or 3 days. Which is nothing I cant handle.
I am the only one who thinks this is the most painful thing i have ever experienced, i have kidney stones and that is nothing compared to havin a camera shoved up my penis. They had extra people to hold me down when i arrived, which was fun and they did. The whole thing was ridiculously painful, the numbing gel bit was not as bad a the camera, but i did not feel numbed in any way. The whole thing was like being burnt from the inside, i was in full shock after, i was shivering and my teeth were chattering. Also there were blood drops from previous patients on the changing room floor
