So a couple of weeks ago i took sertraline for 2 days but stopped due to a funny turn when i woke during the night ie pale face, cold tingling body rushes, weak pulse feeling and in panic mode. Anyway ive been given 20mg fluoxetine but im still undecided weather to take since having that funny turn off the sertraline which i feel scared to try anything else but i know if i dont try i know im just gonna go around in circles and be ill daily ie no change from the past year. I guess im worried how it will make me feel? Any advice from those of you who are taking or have taken fluoxetine? What can i expect for the first few days? I know sertraline side affects kicked in straight away with bad nausea and shaky hands.x
Hi I have been on it for almost a year just hold on it will get better also you can ask your doctor to give you a calming tablet just for the first couple of months so you sont freak out every time the side effects hits you
Hi Moo88, only advise I can give is to give them a try and see as everyone reacts differently to the meds.
It might be just the job for you, probably expect to feel worse for a few days but any side effects generally wear off over first two weeks, very unpleasant ones you can discuss with GP.
Ive didn't take to it myself. N
Hi Janine thanks for the reply. I think i am going to give it a try because today i feel terrible like i could pass out and im thinking how long does this have to go on for until i say enough is enough take the medication ive been given. My doctor said i couldnt take anything else with the fluoxetine ie to calm me down.
Hiya, I went onto fluoxetine 20mg once a day about 8 weeks ago after the 1st one I was ready 2 give up as side effects were horrendous but stuck with it anyway and the side effects disappeared after a couple of weeks, went back 2 docs after another 4 weeks as I didn't think they were doing the job, she doubled the dose and wow what a difference, everyone has different reactions 2 different meds but for me these were just what I needed, hang in there xx
Hi Lesley thanks for the reply. Well today i took my first 20mg fluoxetine and i feel relatively normal. I did get anxious and my heart was beating fast when i went out but now im home im calm so it must of been me being anxious and not the fluoxetine. Ive had no nausea, no shaking hands or feeling ill like i did taking sertraline for the first day which was horrible i felt so terrible so i expected to feel the same off these on the first dose but nothing as yet, i do feel slightly tired though. Im just hoping i dont have any funny turns in the night like i did with sertraline hence me stopping those. Does this mean not having any major side affects on day 1 that these tabs wont work? Like for it to be working i should be feeling something or will it get worse as i carry on taking? Because everyone always says the side affects are within the first week or 2.x
Hiya, glad you managed the meds and managed 2 get out and about, as I said all meds affect everyone different, just because you were ok today dont mean your gonna have side effects in days or even weeks 2 come, ive heard so many success stories with this med with no side effects whatsoever you could just be on the right med and dose for you, I wish you well and hope you do well on your meds xx
Thank you for the reply. Yes your right everyone reacts differently its just good to hear other peoples stories and have reassurance. Ive taken my first 20mg fluoxetine today, no side affects as yet im hoping it stays that way.
Aww thank you lesley i really hope this is a good sign and that it will eventually work where i feel better. Its reassuring you saying that about success stories who havent had side affects because it gives me hope that even if i have minimal side affects it still could work. To be fair a lot of people i know who have taken fluoxetine dont suffer to much on it with side affects but then they say it didnt work but then their dose was lower than 20mg. My partner hardly had any side affects and it helped him and he recommends fluoxetine. I hope i can get to the stage like you where life feels bearable again. Ill keep you posted :-) how old are your btw? x
Glad you seem 2 have the right attitude, please do keep me posted on how your getting on chic, oh im on the very wrong side of 40, wot about you? Xx
Im 26. Thanks for all your advice it helped in making the decision to try the tabs. Day 2 tomorrow so lets hope for another day of no side affects...touch wood :-) x
Your very welcome, I wish you all the best and hope you continue 2 get better,xx
I'm glad I've came across this post as It's just reminded me to take my tablet I went to my doc's 3 month ago and they put me on fluoxetine 20mg 2 week ago they put It up to 40mg 1 tab on morning and 1 at night they haven't give me any side effects I've been on several types of tablets for depression and anxiety and these have been the best up to now still get the odd down moment but that's due to family Issues atm I do feel like I want more a muscle relaxer tablet as I get very agitated on a night time and morning some times when I'm out and about xx hope they work for you
So its day 4 of taking fluoxetine and i think im starting to feel the side affects, im feeling nauseous, like a hot feeling inside, light headed and anxious but because i dont feel right its making me feel anxious inside. How can i keep calm and get through the side affects if they get worse? Also feeling more tired than usual today. I really hope i dont have bad side affects where i need to stop the medication. When do you know when side affects are to bad that the medication isnt for you ie you need to stop taking it?
Hiya. I'm 20 years old and have been taking fluoxetine for over a year..I switched from citalopram to this and the only physical reactions I had were from not taking them.
I would strongly advise against them unless you are desperate, perhaps some form of therapy would be better. If I had the choice again I would've said no. I feel tired constantly and this creates a whole different sadness to my life but I feel stuck on them.
