Hi i am on fluoxetine and have been suffering from slow heart rate and palpitations.
Is anybody else having this problem? Im worried that its not safe.

Hi brenda only 10mg this is week 14 for me. If its them causing the heart symptoms im thnking of weaning off now xxx
That's a very low dose I wouldn't do anything yet speak with GP I'm now on 40 for 7 weeks and had awful side effects but they are slowly going worth it
I sm wIting results from ab ecg its just so scary ov not slept st all last night xxx

I had this last week, it went away, I'm on 16mg
It sounds like the side effects. I have slow heart rate then other times fast pounding. If EKG is normal, then that’s what it is. It’s scary, but it won’t hurt you. I’ve been there. I started with this over 20 years ago, and I’m still here. I know it’s scary.
Are you still on the medication stacey? Im getting no sleep at all with it so thinking of dtilping the medication i hope if i do ir reverts bk to normal xxx

Yes I’m on 40 mg. I’m in week 11, I still get bad anxiety, hoping it goes away soon. I wake up several times, but usually am able to go back to sleep. I can’t seem to get rid of the anxiety it causes though. I didn’t have anxiety like this before taking it.
Its nice to find someone at a similar stage i an week 12.
Once i wake i become really aware of my heart and feel strange sensations so literally sometimes im scared to go to slp incase i dont wake up.
Have u ever tried any other ssris where this didnt happen? Xxx
I think it happens will all the SSRI’s unfortunately. I’ve tried several other ones. I was on Effexor, which is an SNRI for several years. It does go away eventually but it takes months unfortunately. It sounds like anxiety, which won’t kill you, but is very uncomfortable. I forgot what it was like to restart one. I went off Effexor in the summer because it caused me constipation and I was still having depression. I had the anxiety under control, now it’s starting totally over with the anxiety. I didn’t realize last time that these cause increased anxiety as a side effect. It definitely is because I wasn’t having bad anxiety at all. Now I’m having panic attacks. I haven’t had a full blown panic attack in about a week, but very high anxiety. My Dr doesn’t want to prescribe benzos to help the anxiety, but I have some from years ago that he said I could take, so that’s what I’ve been doing. I hope it gets better for both of us.
When i first started them i didbt have this side effect until about 3 wks in and mr kps telln me if it was related to the tabs it wud have passed by now.
Tonyt iv been reading about the effects they have on the electrical currents of the heart and i really feel like i want to quit.
I have been taking diazapam too but now after reading tonight the antidepressants can cause cardiablc arrest i feel worried about taking the diazapam incase that slows me down even more xxx
I didn’t notice it until in week 4, I think because that’s when it’s started to work. These will not cause cardiac arrest, it is anxiety. They don’t affect the heart. Was your EKG normal? The side effects are scary, but won’t hurt you.
Im still waiting for my results. I expected side effects to have passed this far along the way. I only really experience it at night xxx
The side effects can last a long time unfortunately, but they are not dangerous. It’s very scary if you already have anxiety, it’s not dangerous to your heart. If it was I would have been gone over 20 years ago.
