About two months ago, I took Adderall frequently for about a month to help me study. It was non-prescription but I never exceeded what a normal dose would be (about 15-30 mg max per day)(I have adhd, but my doctor refused to prescribe adderall). Anyways, one day I took 30 mg and drank 2 monster energy drinks. About 5 hours later, I experience a very serious panic attack where my vision went blurry, I had an impending sense of doom, and all my extremities started blurring. I freaked out and immediately went to the ER. They told me all that happened was that I had a panic attack and I didn't have any heart abnormalities. For the next week, I had very bad heart palpitations as well as long last anxiety that kept me up at night. Luckily, the subsided after a week exactly. Needless to say, I've stayed away from both adderall and caffeine since then because of how scary the whole thing was. Recently, I tried incorporating caffeine back into my diet because I figured the adderrall was the culprit for that whole ordeal. I drank half a monster energy yesterday before I stopped because I had horrible anxiety and was on the verge of having another panic attack for at least 5 hours after that, but luckily never got one. Before this whole ordeal, I would have 2 energy drinks a day at times and experience practically no anxiety. So my question is, could have my panic attack permanently made me more sensitive to caffeine? Or is this something that would subside after a while? Thanks.
Anxiety is a weird thing. Your mind is probably set to the idea that caffeine causes panic attacks now. I’d say, stay away from it for a while. I think it’s too soon to go back to it right now. Once you get anxiety, it’s hard to get rid of it and caffeine is definitely something that triggers it.
Also energy drinks are not a good type of caffeine. They're overloaded with caffeine and chemicals that are extremely bad for the body. It is unhealthy to drink 2 in a week let alone 2 in a day. Which could be highly contributing to the overload of anxiety. This is all on top of the unprescribed use of adderall. It is best to try and find a better way to study((without drugs) and to avoid all energy drinks as they now may be a trigger to your anxiety.
