From hips to knee's

Hello fello hippies

Well l am at the monent still recovering from 2 hip replacements 1st done in december and 2nd done on 15th february. I admit its not been easy at all a lot of good has came out it in the fact have had no OA pain that l suffered for almost a year. Had 1st thr and my recovery seemed to be flawless l was walking without aid as soon as l got home and doing my PT everyday and was desperate to get 2nd done 4 weeks after 1st but had to wait 8 weeks. This one was totally diffrent. My recovery was much harder, possibly because l was still healing from the 1st. I am 14 weeks post 2nd op and was still suffereing a lot of pain and discomfort. I tried to walk everyday to help my hips but found that my knee's were in pain afterwords. And l was also getting backpain. And sitting in a chair for more than an hour was really painful hence l am still off work. I returned to the doctor who sent me for xrays in my hips and knee's and l have been called back this morning as there is now OA in my knee's. Not sure the extent of it or if l need anything done. But l will soon find out as l am going just now. It just seems to be never ending and a rollercoaster of emotion.

Well here goes l hope its not to bad.

Good luck xxx

Hello Lors

Oh no! I am so sorry you are going through this.

You know I had both my hips done close together too and like you I am still getting back pain. But the hip and OP pain is at last subsiding. I am still suffering though because I just can not get my right foot to go flat on the floor. My surgeon has said it is all in my head. I turned to him and said no looking at my latest x ray my hips aree not level so I am compensating by walking on my toes on the right side. I am frustrated that I can't walk without a limp.

I hope you don't have to have your knees done too. I think that would be a bit much after what you have already been through.

I hope for good news for you and they have got it wrong.

HI Laura,  I have just had my second hip repacement. Like you say it not easy Hope your feeling well soon.

Kind Regards

Rex

Good luck Laura! I think it must be very hard to go from an operation where everything goes so well and recovery is very rapid to one where recovery takes much longer.

I've come to feel that once CV hips are x-rayed, knees should be done automatically as the problems are so interconnected and knee joints need to realign once hip surgery is over - so much pain arises from this adjustment stage ... hip bone is connected to the ....

I hope the news you get today helps you move forward and become healthy again.

Hugs

L

Sending big hugs Laura, you have had it rough x

Dear Laura,

Aww, laura, I am so sorry .... Hopefully it is "just" the muscles being overburdened ...

I know what you are saying - my 2nd THR post-op was/is also different - my issue is that old new hip is bothering me more than new new hip ... I don't know how to explain it - hence the trochanteric bursitis , I think - Sometimes I feel as if i am making it up while I go ... still walking with limp and using cane because of dizzy spells .. yigh !!!!!

let us know the outcome of your doctor's visit, okay

big warm hug

renee

I hope it's good news Laura. Good luck x

Well l did't get good news at all l should have known as l have had a very unlucky time when it comes to health.

Firstly the gp l had appointment with seems like he has no heart you are just another number l don't think he actually looked at me once when l was in the room l alway try to avoid him whrn making appointment but in this case he was the only one avalible to see me as quick which does not suprise me as l think a lot of people avoid him. He knows l am just after getting my two hips replaced and when l seen him last l was crying as was really down with feeling l was not recovering fast enough again no reaction he just asked where is the pain and had a look at my 2 scars. When l said l had been trying to walk to help my hips l was ending up with more pain in my knees after and my ankles were swelling up. I asked him to if he could xray my knee's just incase as well as my hips to make sure everything was ok. He agreed and filled out an xray card then started talking about my pain medication

He said you know you can take more tramadol than you are taking.......i said l am trying to reduce my medication not take more and explained to him how much l had reduced it by since l came out hospital.

I said when l came out after my 2nd thr l was on 8 tramadol a day and about 8 co-codamol this was taking them both every 4 hrs and through the night. I said l had been put on oxycodone as well if pain became severe but l only ever took 1 at the most per day and was now down to 2 to 4 tramadol and 2 to 4 co-codamol if l felt l needed it which l have as the pain has now moved to my knee's but still did not like taking ss much painkillers. But he again said well up your dose of tramadol if you are in pain. I don't think he even read back my records as he said how did you end up on this comblination of painkillers as you could be on an anti inflamitory. To which l had to tell him l was not allowed NSAID'S as l was allergic to asprin and had previously stomach ulcers years ago when l found out.

Sorry l am ranting lets cut to the chase. I have severe scaring on both knee's as bad OA as l had on my hips as it seems and he said l am referring you to see a knee surgeon. He then asked if l wanted to see the same surgron that did my 2 thr's as he is a hip and knee's specialist so l said yes and got a fig in that he was a lovely man.

Still not knowing what this means for my knee's l had read up a bit on in while waiting on results and worst case senario was knee replacements but there was also another prosedure which they could do if you had OA. It was keyhole surgery called arthroscopy where they can go in and clean the knee up and smooth the cartliage out. Well he snapped back that would not work with OA. I am sure it said it was used with OA and l had read it and l think he is wrong but l dod not want to argue with him. He said basically you will soeak to your surgeon he might be able to give you injections to releive the pain or he might just want to do replacements.

So basically not the best of news as l am still of recovering from my hip replacements to be going straight back into it again with my knees.

So was not having a great day but then l got even worse news about my mum who had a cough and had went for xrays yesterday on her chest and within 2 hours her doctor had results she has some nodules in her lung and they wany to act fast as it could be cancer. Could l have had a worse day. And now l really don't care about my knee's as they can be fixed all my focus is on my mum now and l feel stupid for getting so worked up over my knee's when there is alway someone worse than off.

I am sorry for long reply just wanted to keep you in the loop. And another thing l have been part of this hip forum through both my thr's l don't want to go to the knee forum as l feel this is my home. Ha ha l know it sounds stupid but l have been here since dec last year and loved it so much everyone has been so supportive l would feel weird moving to the knee forum 😕.

Love

.

Forgot to say thank you for all your support yesterday xxx

What a rotten day Laura. So much bad news and an unfeeling doctor.

I hope your surgeon offers you better knee options than the guy you saw .... bound to, one would think.

As for your Mom's news - wow, very hard to take in.

Rant here any time you need. You have to et it out or it will trigger yet another problem

With sorrow, much sympathy and hugs and prayers,

L

Life can be so challenging sometimes, so sorry about your mum, sometimes things just put everything else into perspective, I hope you felt better just letting it go and saying everything  - sometimes that in itself can be therapeutic.

A couple of years ago I tore my cartilage, and had an arthroscopy to 'tidy it up' it was amazing and solved the problem immediately, but I don't know if it's the same for OA.

I think you need to find a more sympathetic GP, you sound to be on a lot of pain relief and that is probably exacerbating your outlook on everything.

I've been rock bottom before for very different reasons, but give yourself a break, let family and friends help you, fresh air, good food and a good book. You'll get there in the end . Love Malloo

Oh my - if I have that song  going round and round in my head today I will be getting back to you later !!!!!!!

I'm really sorry to hear about your mum Laura, what an awful day you had yesterday!! and obviously another encounter with a thoughtless uncaring doctor. Didn't he even tell you of the severity of the OA in your knees? Do you think this is why you haven't recovered as well as you might of with your 2nd THR? No wonder you haven't been feeling up to going back to work!! I really hope there's another solution to this other than knee replacements !! X

😆😇

Hugs!
