An explanation of the different types of ear infection and which parts of the ear are involved can be found in the separate leaflet called Ear infection (otitis media).
This is a companion discussion topic for the original article at https://patient.info/ears-nose-throat-mouth/earache-ear-pain/fungal-ear-infection
I started with an Aspergillus Niger infection two weeks ago. After three days of pain I saw the GP who prescribed Canesten anti-fungal ear drops plus an antibiotic/steroid spray “just in case”. The infection subsided within 24 hours and I’ve been almost pain free ever since, but pronounced hearing loss in the affected ear persists. It’s now been a week with no perceptible change.
After checking on-line regarding how long I should wait before I saw the doctor again I get a wide variety of answers. Anything from one week to four! As a professional musician I’m currently unable to work because of it. I have insurance cover but would rather not make a claim if this will improve in the near future.
I was wondering what other people’s experiences were.
