Hello every one I'm 26 years old and for the last year I have been reading forums and looking up gall stone information i thought I would message and ask for your advice if any one has any to offer . It started I would say a few years ago I would get awful pain in my upper right side and sickness the pain would be so bad I would go to a and e and I kept getting told it was food poisoning it wasn't till last year September I had the same thing extreme pain and I was violently sick I was then kept in for more tests I assumed it was food poisoning again then they discovered I had gall stones I was kept in for about a week set home with a bag full of medication and a surgery date I felt fine after a few days decided not to have surgery then only in December the pain came back but only lasted a few days this time . Over the last couple of months I have been very stressed been getting alot of pain in February this year I took very sick again was back in hospital I mean the pain was at it's worst I have since been back in hospital since I mean this month I have lost nearly 2 stone in a month . I was feeling so relieved to get my hospital date threw do have it removed my surgery is in 3 days time . My attacks have been a lot and each time my pancreas and bile duct was also infected . I have been relying on medication day to day . I had my pre op last week every thing was ok my bloods are much better then what they were I'm showing as ok to operate on . I don't feel like I'm healthy enough to operate on I don't know what to do I'm in so much agony constantly I want it removed but on the other hand reading other people's stories it doesn't always get better I don't feel like I'm even fit for this surgery . Does any one have any advise for me .
Thank you
Get that gallbladder out! No wonder your pancreas is infected. The minute your doctor knew you had stones; you should have had that surgery. Are you afraid to have surgery? It is a simple surgery. Since you have been so sick and taking all that medication , hopefully, your infection is gone. Barring any problems with all that, your surgery ought to be a success. Yes, there are some of us that have diarrhea and still some pain after the surgery. You may not. Anything is better than one of those attacks! Surgery is usually out-patient, last about one hour, you come home and do as the doctor tells you. This is all my opinion. I have been through all this. everyone is different and reacts to this surgery differently. Keep us posted! I will keep you in my prayers.
I'm also really scared as to behonest I know how poorly iam I'm just also petrified x
Does your doctor think you are too sick to have the surgery? Are you afraid of being put to sleep?
Thank you so much for your reply by the way . When I raised my concerns with my gp he actually said your 26 I have had to perscribe you morphine you need this surgery . I mean my partner seems to think I will die if I don't have the surgery he doesn't understand my fears . I'm scared I won't wake up and I'm scared they will make the situation worst like damage some thing else . I really don't know what to do . I can't live life like this but having panic attacks about Thursday I know I don't think I'll be able to do this .
First of all, I understand. I also know how simple this surgery usually is. With any surgery, situations could arise. Being put to sleep is scary. You need to talk to the anethesiologists when he/she comes in . Make sure you communicate you want something to alleviate nausea which at times you will experience after a surgery and you do not want this. They will add an anti-nausea medication that will keep you from being sick. they will tell you to trust them and you do need to do that. I have had about 6 surgeries, 2 caths, 3 colonoscopies and am used to being put to sleep. Like I said everyone is different. Me, I love that good sleep! it will be okay. trust your doctor and the team.
I feel like everything will be okay. The surgery is a simple on. I know you want to feel better and I would trust the doctor and his team. Talk to them about your concerns. they will ease your fears. Good luck to you! keep me posted!!
Hi April,
You seem to have 2 problems , the first is GB surgery which can be solved with ease ,surgery and high rate of uncomplicated recovery . The second is exagerrated anxiety and panic which I know very well, you have 2 options , your GP can put you on prescription antianxiety MEDS like Ativan , Xanax ...etc. until your surgery ,which works to calm you down.or you can occasionally take some antihistamine or cough remedy to relax yourself until surgery .afterward your anxiety will subside.
Always consult and follow your Doc anyway.
Good luck for your recovery
Hi april, not long to wait now until all this dreadful pain is behind you and you are in the road to getting your life back. Accept your fear knowing that many many others have felt the same and been ok. Trust your doctor to know his/her job and that they and the nursing staff will take good care of you. You don't really have a choice or a decision , your gallbladder is making your body really poorly. I'm sure you will be on here in a week telling us how much better you feel. Play your part in all this by taking good care of yourself, follow your doctor's advice and get plenty of rest to recover well. Good luck we will all be thinking of you on here and wishing you well.
I was bad after my surgery but I think looking back I tried to do too much . I'm not coming up to three weeks since surgery and with amatruptaline for supposed nerve damage its much better . No more stabbing pains for me just dull ache and feel like I've done a million sit ups x I was not well before surgery also .
Sounds like you need the surgery . But after if you are in pain keep in hospital . And if like me the pain gets worse after a week go back and insist on seeing a pain specialist as I feel if I hadn't have gotten the never damage pain relief Id still be in pain x his x
I was telling my fella last night out scared iam and how I can't go threw with it he said well if you don't you will die a slow and painful death and be in and out of hospital I told him to stop being so dramatic . He said he hates seeing me like this and having to take morphine and other medicine just so I can get threw the day . I really appreciate your advice and well wishes I can see me doing a running Thursday morning from the hospital I'm such a brave ballsy person but yet I'm petrified to being put to sleep
Thank you for your story so you would say you have no regrets your glad your had it removed . Is my fella right at the point I'm at could this kill me if I don't have the surgery .
When you are better you'll realise how ill you've been. You fella has perhaps put it a little bluntly and I don't know if that's true in the literal sense but you know what he means, it's not getting better with any amount of meds! It needs out. Don't worry about suffering after op we are all different and heal differently. Follow all advice given and read on here and take care to recover. :-)
Thank you Hun . I just hope nothing goes wrong with surgery . I think the risks of not waking up are pretty low but still so scared .
I was worried about not waking up .. But I'm here !!! You will do it and you will be fine !!!
Try and stay possitive xx
Hi April,
First off would you really want to live with the extreme pain of gallstones? The longer you leave it the worse it gets. Plus more gallstones can be producing themselves. If they get stuck in bile duck or neck of gallbladder trust me it's horrendous.
The reason you are feeling so bad is simply your gallstones. As
Been said already once out you will be so much better. Do not
Think negative but positive. Not everyone gets after symptoms.
No regrets after having my gallstones out, mine has been a few ups and downs but so much better since its been out. I now have a life again.
Try buying a nice relaxing CD, listen to it and try chilling. I am assuming you have not had surgery before and its a scary thing.
Have always had really good experience of any ops I had and have had many. They should be able to give you something to
Calm you down on the day. Please go ahead and have it done as your quality of life will be so much better. It's only a few days and will be over in a flash. Good luck.
Hello Janet it has got stuck in the bile duct so I have felt the pain it was agony . I know I need it I'm in a huge panic that's all . I did have surgery when I was 19 to have my appendix removed it was a case of it needs removing I was in extreme agony it was and then and there thing I had no time to think or re search stuff . I do remember crying all the way down to the theatre and then I remember waking up it took bout 6 weeks to recover . I feel worst about this surgery I'm more petrified .
Don't worry about recovery time just think a stage at a time. Operation first, they will give you pain relieve afterwards. Write down anything you might be stressing about and ask on the day.
Everyone stresses your not alone. But think of the bigger picture at the end of the day.
