I have been diagnosed with gallstones and waiting for an ultrasound scan. In the meantime I notice that my urine is very dark - any ideas?
Hi
I had that problem when my gallbladder first flared up - perhaps you ought to see your GP, mine was caused by an infected stone, when my blood tests came back my liver levels were way too high. I do believe that dark urine can be a sign of jaundice so like I say your GP is your best port of call - good luck
hi, i too had dark urine with my galbladder problems at first i thought it was down to dehydration, but it did not clear with trying to drink lots of water, when my eyes started to go yellow i got myself an emergency appointment with a dr who confirmed it was jaundice. it is worth checking as your dr can check your liver functions - mine were really high and i went very yellow.
its better to be safe than sorry.

Thank you for your input - I have been drinking more water today and things look a bit better
I have managed to get a private scan tonight so hopefully this will speed things up. What are the benefits of getting private care as opposed to NHS?
You will be seen and dealt with quicker than an NHS patient and you will get better food. I was lucky enough to get an NHS referral to a private hospital (I have previously used this hospital privately). Private patients have preference over NHS ones and get different menus in a private hospital to the NHS patients using the hospital. Having said that I have found the staff caring and helpful so far. I understand that when I have my overnight stay on th 15th I shall probably share a room as oppposed to having one to myself. No problem.
My Consultant made it clear to me that I would be treated exactly the same as the private patients.
Yep - likely to be jaundice. I've had it a number of times following gallstone attacks. In fact, I still have high levels of bilurubin in the liver, a result of blockages, which is why I am still slightly jaundice. Definitely see your GP about it though, it could also be an infection, so best checked out.
Well here I go again. Waiting for my op on Sat 25th and have been feeling off for a few days. Thought I felt better today so decided to have a small jacket potato, a small tin of tuna(not in oil) and a splodge of light salad cream. As soon as I ate it the pain came between the shoulder blades and in chest. Within 10 minutes I was vomitting the lot back. Happy days. Roll on Saturday.
gemini - sorry you are feeling crap, its not long to your op .. saturday is the end of the week.. hope all goes well for you, all the best .. try not to get too stressed, and eat what you can.
keep positive.

Thanks vixen. I still feel pretty awful I am worried they will not do op if I have been vomitting but my hubbie says that that was was why I seeked medical help - the pain, vomitting etc. It is obviuous the gallbladder needs to come out.
Can't face food or drink. Just when I was trying to build myself up. Weight loss now is 3st 6lbs.
