Gastritis which went away and then came back

I was recently told I had gastritis after the worst stomach and back pain after a few weeks.

I was put on ranitidine for 10 days as well as implementing a much healthier diet (cutting out alcohol and dairy and eating more fruit and vegetables). I thought I was getting better however every morning since then I would wake up with a sore abdomen upper left side as well as back pain. This pain doesn't affect me in the day though.

I also struggle with anxiety and hypochondria which has been particularly bad ever since I got the diagnosis. I went a week trying not to obsess over the pain and the fact that I believed I wasn't getting better. So yesterday I had a feel of my belly which probably wasn't the best idea as I got worked up about it but when it's pressed and my stomach almost feels as if it's hard and painful.

I did go out on Saturday night and have like 2 drinks but previously i had an anxiety attack just because I was going out so my belly was feeling sensitive anyway, but I don't know if the pain flared up because of that?

I haven't had any issues with my bowels and I haven't felt sick or been sick. I just tend to feel bloated a lot of the time.

If anyone could shed some light to what I should do next that would be a huge help? I have a GP appointment tomorrow but I keep panicking that it's something serious and overthinking the situation.

It is likely your anxiety is making your symptoms worse.  Continue doing what you are doing and accept your diagnosis.  Try distraction techniques like gentle exercise and taking up a hobby.

As Pippa says distract yourself I know it's hard I struggle too with it.

But accepting your situation makes it better,

I've had ongoing problems for 8 months and it does get you down when it doesn't get better but somehow relaxing helps a bit,

Goodluck

Gastritis can go away and come back especially if you are anxious or have eaten something that irritates your gastritis.  Gastriris can take time to heal and does mean you will always have a sensitive stomach.  Stick to a gastritis diet, and try distraction techniques to help your anxiety.  If you have been given medication for your symptoms, continue to take it.  These are the next steps you should take.
