So as many of you know, I had to take some time off work because my knees were too painful after I tried going to them gym (I’ve not had KR and I’m not sure if I suffer from patellofemoral pain syndrome or not, but probably an overuse injury as I’ve not had a sports injury or so. I’ve not had an MRI yet).
I went back to work on Monday after two weeks rest (no more pain at rest and very little after a long walk) and my knees started to hurt again (my job is very physical). I started using this gel I got online and after 2 days, there’s very little pain, I can’t even complain. My knees are not 100% okay but the pain is like a 2/10 at most at time and I have 0 pain sometimes. If I have the walk around really fast it goes up to a 4/10 and it used to be a 7-8/10 at all times at work.
I feel really happy right now because I can continue to work but I’m not sure I’m doing the right thing. I’m not asking for medical advice, but I’m asking for opinions because many of you have more experience with pain. Could the gel just mask the pain and I could be doing more harm than good? It works even better than Naproxen.
I’m going to see my doctor next week so will mention about it. I’m not sure I can tell the name of the gel here, if anyone interested to know, you can PM me.
I apologise about typos and spelling mistakes
Hi I had knee replacement on my right knee, before i had the op i was having pain i would say 6 out of 10, i was not able to walk more than 4 miles hence i decided to have the op, i am sorry now the pain has been horendous and lasted 5 weeks, i am now on different medication and the pain in my knee is better i can say manageable as i am still in pain and my knee is still swollen after 7 weeks i also ice my knee 5 times a day and also do the exercises and i go to physio as well, if i was asked to have the other knee done i would refuse as i have never known pain like it i know us men cant stand much pain but jesus it hurt, i suppose if you are not able to walk far and in terrible pain then you must consider the op, i think i was unlucky as i also had an infection in my knee, but eh i am on the mend now but defo not have another knee op unless i cant walk or am in terrible pain mild pain i can put up with and now i know what severe pain is i can make that decision, hope your pain eases for you and make sure you make the right choice for you, we re not all the same when it comes to pain. good luck MAX
As for now I wouldn’t want to get the op. I’m too young for that and I hope there’s other solutions. Thank you!
Wow - if a topical cream/gel works for you keep it up...it wont mask the pain any more than Naproxen will and much better for your liver !
Keep using it until you get your MRI scan but perhaps be economical with how successful the gel is in reducing your pain or your GP may not put you forward for the scan ! You do really need to know what's going on in there anyway.....
Hi. I have a jel my ortho prescribed and I used it for a long time before I had TKR. When used regularly it helped and no damage to organs from taking naproxen or Advil for a long time. I would
Mention it to my doctor just to be on the safe side.
Hi Pat - what was the gel called that was prescribed...I think you are allowed to mention it on here if a prescription drug.....thanks
It is Voltaren. I used it for at least 3 years for osteoarthritis and it helped. Hopefully that will buy you a little time. If this is not allowed, I’m certain the moderator will delete it. Good luck. Today marks 3 months for me and I am doing well
