Hola. Me hice una PRK en la rodilla derecha en octubre de 2015 bajo anestesia general con un epidural y estuve muy enferma después, lo cual esperaba que pasara. Tengo programada la reemplazo de la rodilla izquierda en dos semanas y, aunque estuve enferma, creo que voy a volver a optar por anestesia general porque realmente solo quiero que me duerman y despertarme cuando todo haya terminado.
¿Alguien tiene algún comentario sobre qué tipo de anestesia creen que es la mejor y por qué? Prefiero no tener idea de lo que está pasando.
Me gustaría decir lo maravilloso que es este foro y cuánto me ayudó la primera vez.

I always got sick after general anesthesia. Never had an epidural. When I had my tkr, I told them I always get sick. They said they would give me everything they could to prevent it, one thing was the patch, and I didn't get sick. The same thing when I had the manipulation. Never got sick. So just make sure you tell them.

Antes de entrar a cirugía, me dieron una pastilla para ayudar con las náuseas después de la anestesia. No tuve náuseas ni malestar después de mi cirugía. Quizás podrías pedir la medicación antes de tu cirugía.
No sé el nombre de la medicación.
I had general anaesthetic and was fine afterwards but I do know they gav me something to combat the sickness- I will try and find out what they gave me if possible

I had both a general anaesthetic and an epidural. One minute I was in surgery and the next, I was back in my room, feeling great. Maybe the doctor can give you something to prevent you getting sick. Won't hurt to ask. It's bad enough to be in pain after surgery without adding being sick on top of it. Good luck with your upcoming TKR!!!
Yes I felt great also. I think you have to make sure they give you something for the sickness
Hi Tracy - I had a PKR in Nov 2015 and they were going to do an epidural and general but did a femoral nerve block instead on the leg being operated on and general. I was sick for at least a week after but I didn't have a lot of pain for the first couple of days until everything wore off. Good luck

Habiendo estado en la sala de Anestesia antes de mi operación y escuchando una sustitución articular teniendo lugar en el quirófano de al lado, la ignorancia es definitivamente la mejor política solo por el ruido. Habla con tu anestesiólogo antes de la operación para discutir tus preocupaciones. Hay medicamentos disponibles para prevenir náuseas, etc., después de la operación. Soy el peor del mundo con problemas postoperatorios. Intenta confiar en los profesionales, incluidas las enfermeras que te cuidarán después. La preparación preoperatoria también es buena. Dieta saludable, descansada y lo más relajada posible. El estrés puede aumentar los síntomas postoperatorios. ¡Mucha suerte!

I am 8 weeks post op and had a spinal , made sure I was out to it as soon as the block took effect
You are not aware of anything and with the spinal they are able to provide up to six hours post op pain relief and you sure can go with this!!! Still having much pain and anxiety but after reading some on the forum I feel it is part of the procedure

I am nearly seven weeks post op and go through lots of different emotions from worrying about damage to the prosthetic to wondering if its coming through my skin.
I hate being aware of it and just want to get back to normal where Im not conscious of my knee and enjoy a decent nights sleep again.
Will it ever happen??
Always always have the general. i wouldnt have anybody sticking needles in my spine. Things can go wrong and you are far safer with the general. You can always ask for them to give you something to combat the sickness.
i was also given a pill and had no sickness. I think you may have to ask for it.
Hola Mary. No podía creer lo mal que me sentía después de mi PKR en octubre de 2015 y aquí estoy listo para pasar por todo esto de nuevo. Se pone mejor. Ahora estoy casi a 6 meses de la operación y es lo mejor que he hecho. La rodilla de reemplazo es genial, puedo caminar millas con esa, buena flexión, sin dolor o noches sin dormir, a diferencia de la izquierda que me haré a continuación.
Es un viaje de montaña rusa mientras nos recuperamos, pero estoy seguro de que llegarás allí. Gracias por tomarte la molestia de responder.
En cuanto a la anestesia, les hice saber que sufro de mareos después, ya que ha sucedido antes. Me dieron medicación antes y después, y al final, después de estar tan enfermo durante la mayor parte del día, me dieron una inyección que ayudó. Más vale estar enfermo que ser consciente en algún grado de lo que está pasando.

Hola, no estaría de acuerdo en que sea más seguro. Todas las formas de anestesia tienen riesgos asociados. Pregúntele a cualquiera que haya tenido una epidural durante el parto. La caída de la presión arterial, el enrojecimiento facial, el aumento del azúcar en la sangre, los dolores de cabeza graves que pueden durar mucho después de que la epidural haya perdido su efecto y la posibilidad de daño en los nervios espinales deben tenerse todos en cuenta.
I had wanted a spinal for my TKR, but I'm not flexible, so it wasn't possible. I had a GA and it was impeccable. I've always been well with anaesthesia, which may be just luck, since the rest of my family are sickies. I wake cheerful and thirsty, craving for tea.
I'd certainly tell the anaesthetist in advance about previous problems. Any problems! They have many solutions and you might find something that really works for you.

Initially I said i wanted a GA when I had my first TKR but I was persuaded by the anaesthetist that I could be made completely unaware while the surgery was carried out with an epidural. I am glad I did. I was completely out of it and when I came round I felt fine and had the added bonus of not being in pain because of the epidural. I was actually looking forward to my dinner which I ate with gusto! I didn't eat more than some cereal for the next six days. Last time I had a GA, like you I was very sick afterwards and very drousy. When I go in for the second TKR next month I will definitely go for the sedation/epidural again.
I had spinal and sedation for both my knees and was fine afterwards no groggy feeling had tea and something to eat as soon as i got back to the ward
