Genital Herpes, she’s negative and he’s positive blood tests

Hello, person #1 (female) and person #2 (male) have been having unprotected sex for about 1 1/2 years (2-3 times each week) and for the last 3 1/2 months, they started having sex almost everyday. They knew he had type #1 orally with an outbreak rarely, but he has never had an outbreak in the genital area. She had a outbreak just inside the vaginal opening on one side recently and was diagnosed with type 2 by PCR . They got an IgG blood test and she was negative for both but his results positive for both type 1 21.20 & type 2 >23.6 . Does this mean he just recently got infected or could he have had type 2 for years and never knew? They had sex the day before she had an outbreak and he still has not had an outbreak in his genital area, also his PCR (swab inside head of penis was negative 2 weeks after she had an outbreak, Is there a test that can pick up the virus from the shaft?

Probably she got it from him. Her antibodies will develop in a few weeks/month because it’s most likely a fresh infection. Probably he gave the virus to her without knowing that he had it. Many people with hsv-2 are asymptomatic.

If it was an old infection she would have antibodies.
