Ficando frio

I've been doing really well on my 3 weekly depo medrone injections. Yesterday afternoon I went to a barbecue feeling pain free. As the sun went down I got quite cold. By the time I went to bed I felt dreadful with arms, hands, neck and collar bone really aching just like before I started depo. Has anyone else found cold affects Polymyalgia?

Hi Hilary, sorry to hear you are not feeling the best.  I am not medically qualified to answer your question but just last Monday I reduced pred from 12.5 down to 10mg and even though I wasn't out, I got very cold, from the knees down but it's not there now, so I wonder if it was reducing the pred, I don't know.  Hang around the forum and someone will get back to you.  They are a great bunch of people.  Good luck on your journey.  Pat

I couldn't use a cold swimming pool - and that is a relative statement! If the pool was under 28C my muscles protested violently! Of course, 28C is hardly ideal for doing training but I could do aqua classes fairly well at 28/29 - when it was about 30C is was better but 32C (when the thermostat was misbehaving) was lovely but I did get very tired like everyone else!

I often sat with my back against a radiator - so warmth helps! It is presumably that getting cold leads to vasoconstriction (the blood vessels get narrower) which has two effects: less oxygen gets to the muscles and waste products are not removed as efficiently. PMR is thought by some experts to be due to poor blood supply to the muscles anyway - you are just recreating the status with getting cold.

Hi Hilary,

I've been challenged with PMR for 9 months or so.....  I find I can not tolerate the heat any more.  I used to love summer and the warm weather.  It never really bothered me BUT since hysterectomy, thyroidectomy and now PMR the heat is hard to handle !!!  Not that I'm comfortable with air conditioning but not the humidity!!  I have ceiling fans and I use them instead of AC.

Why are you having medrone injections instead of Presnisone, if I can ask?

Take care,  judy

Hi Judy. I am taking the depo injections as I have had two perforated stomach ulcers and can't tolerate the Pred orally.
