well here they send me in the ambulacne but i just think they are taking care of the people here
I was told 6 weeks by the nurse at the pre-op, although she said it would be okay after 5 weeks but they always say 6, in case anyone thinks they will be able to leap into the car and go all over the place far too soon and dislocate their hip.
You should be able to get into a car as a passenger within a week of your surgery. It essentially depends on how soon you become mobile and comfortable walking with the walker/cane. Just be careful and take it slow. Trying to get in and out quickly can be disastrous and painful so ensure that you do it at your pace making yourself comfortable at each step of it.
can ask the average age of people getting they hip operated around here?
I'm 57
Actually I forgot I'm 58 lol
you write younger
i spoke with a dr from USA very famous that makes this opertion that told me tht 90 degree rules, and all that are just precaution but that the hip should nbot dislocate
49 just x
Always best to ask you doctor but....I was a passenger day 2 ... smile, did need to get home My mom brought my dad's truck as it was higher and easier to get in and out of .... the PT showed me how to get in and out and for the first few times,my mom was right there
a week later we made the 4 hour treck to their house ... have been out one more time.. I would be out more but the weather is too bad, we have had 6 snowstorms in 3 weeks... while the roads are clear, sidewalks are still snow covered and it is bitter cold....
do you feel any pain in the joint itlsef_

Thank you moi, I only feel 30 lol ! However before my op I felt 80yrs.
Yes I think the 90° degree rule is more a general thing to be safe, however I don't want to take any chances. My mother dislocated her second hip replacement and I don't even want to chance it, I'd rather go careful now for a few weeks and give it the best possible chance to bed in well.
I went home in car Monday afternoon after op late Friday before and had to back in car for wound chech week and a half later, then back last wed for check on small swelling in feet, then back again Mon just fine for physio, so they are telling me to go in car. I do have high seat's which is easier not that I'm driving of course I have someone else driving my car. I also went for a drive round after wound check and also went for a drive last Sunday and a short walk along sea front which was lovely. I am just very careful when I get in and out of car keeping leg straight, seat back etc. I also had to get out and walk after a little while the first time I went out for a drive as the sitting can also be a bit uncomfortable after a while.
Hi Moi
My Brother took me home from the hospital but follow the advice the physios and ot give you about getting in and out of cars Like not too low ie Mini not too high ie not a 4x4 and you need plenty of leg room so some thing like a ford mondeo or escort is a good bet and sit in the front passenger seat NOT bucket type seat
I'm an oldie at 64!
Hi Moi
