I have Graves' disease and I am waiting to get total thyroidectomy because I have numerous nodules in my thyroid. I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder 13 years ago, at the same time I was sure there was something wrong with my thyroid. Put on antidepressants and left for years. I was diagnosed 2 years ago with graves after I experienced a thyroid storm. Got put on tapazole until I could get in to see the surgeon. My anxiety is back full swing now and slight depression with it. I had my anxiety med dose increased but still don't feel much different. Please, please is there anyone on here that experiences severe anxiety and is it something that is associated with graves. My endo doesn't think so
I was told that anxiety and depression plus agitation and panic qttacks eature highly on the list of thyroid disorders.
i did have that.. unfortunately it only subsided when my TSH went back to normal... Im still in hyper but TSH is reading... I've been taking multi vitamins no iodine... magnesium will help you with your anxiety
ask your DR to get Vit D and magnesium blood test so they know how do you need
Hi
What was your tsh before and after treatment? At what level of tsh did u start to feel better? I feel terrible.xx
will do. THanks for replying I am still unable to sleep .
TSH <0 prior treatment after 2 years > 1-1.67.... 1.5 is good for me...
That's what I always thought also. Sometimes I just feel like I'm going crazy and I don't know what to do except wait for my anti depressants to kick in, yet again.
My doctor doesn't give me the results, she just tells me if their high, low or within range. Is it ok for me to take magnesium without a doctor telling me to. I'm so confused and tired, I just don't know what's right or wrong.
I did have a lot of blood work done a couple of weeks ago and he said everything was normal. He didn't check magnesium because he said that would not cause anxiety.
google Anxiety and magnesium together... just for reading purposes... Most endo doesn't believe that hyperthyroid lacks some vitamins... so just do your research and if your press about vitamin deffieciency on your dr... They'll kinda give you a confuse look. Ive found out in this forum about vit deficiencies. I told my dr to order VIt D and carnitine and she added Magnesium to be known that I might lack also... She didn't order carnitine though because she doesn't know how to treat it.
My doctor told me yes it has to do with the thyroid. And after treating it he said my anxiety would decrease tremendously, which it is starting too.
SOrry to butt in but pls google Vit B12 deficiency as well.
are we deffiecient on B12 also? I just added b12 on the list of vitamins i have to take 500mcg. Because of this forgetful trait that associates with thyroid problem...and my Ester carnitine is low (has to do with brain function) so i just took b12....
Dear Cheryl Mind if I join in with you and Vanessa? I am wondering what med that you are aking that is helping to allay the anxiety. I feel terribly anxious.
Hope that you do not mind my asking.
I am in the UK. I presume that you are too.
I think that you need to get a baseline of VitB12 first before self medicating. Your GP may do the relevant blood test if not then U may have to pay for a private test.
.
so your dr ordered vitb12 blood test?
I had to pay .
An NHS consultant did them last year shto advise her of this and it was overlooked by the GP so thats why I paid to have them done. STILL NOTHING DONE. Catch u later have not slept.
sorry typos. I paid to have a full anaemia profile as GP had overlooked the results of tests showing anaemia etc done by a NHS specialist in metabolic bone diseases.
Can u pm me for the full story later on?
Sorry to butt in but you re entitled to the print outs of our blood tests.
