Hi, I am 56 and had a right THR 10 weeks ago. I have been doing physio exercises as advised. The one problem which I am very concerned about is the groin pain. I suffer with extreme pain when doing the hip flexor and adductor exercises, getting in and out of our car, bed, etc. My surgeon is quite dismissive of my concerns and has told me to simply do the exercises and it will eventually go away. Has anyone else suffered the same pain?
Hi Sara - I am only 4 weeks post-op, but from everything I've read, it will take at least 6-7 months for a full recovery. I'm not a doctor, but am wondering if you should lay off the hip/flexor and adductor exercises for a while. My main exercise is walking and I have no difficulty getting in or out of the car nor in bed. I am conscious to do everything mindfully because I know how in a nanosecond we can hurt ourselves. I have noticed that weight bearing in the morning is more painful, and so I use my cane for the first hour or two. Are you taking any pain meds? If not, have you tried icing the area?I've said so here more often than I care to remember . . . I had both knees replaced on 9/2/11 and it was a breeze compared to this. Your body is healing from a very intrusive surgery so I would take it easy and if the exercise that you are doing hurts, you should listen to your body and stop for a while. Hoping that time will play it's course in your healing.

thr is a different recovery for everyone. many experience pain and sometimes is from over doing or a therapist pushes us to much. if it hurts stop. and rest for a few days no nothing except small increments of walking and bed exercises. ice, take pain meds anti inflams. and rest rest rest.i agree with Georgette, she brilliantly explained the healing process. i have had 3 thr it always something and rest is best for healing . getting in shape will come soon enough, right now healing is first . sending healing blessings along for your road to recovery.
Thank you very much Georgette. Your advice makes a lot of sense. By continuing doing these exercises, I cannot see any improvements in the pain in my groin area. I will give it a rest.
Thank you for your advice.
i had awful groin pain which started 6 weeks after my op. Couldn't even stretch it out and sleep in a bed. i was about to get a steroid injection into the tendon but my doctor prescribed Baclofen, a muscle relaxant, and it worked within a week. I was so worried at the time but groin pain seems to be so common. I hope you get relief soon.
Thanks Carol. I'm going to ask my doctor about Baclofen. Maybe that will sort it out for me too.
