Perda de cabelo

has anyone else noticed that their hair is falling out? Mine is getting very thin.

Mine has thinned too, I'm hoping the trauma of the op affecting your body must affect your hair too, so hopefully as I improve the condition of my hair will, that's my theory anyway, let's hope so x

yes louise I mentioned this the other day and also my nails are in a bad condition I dont no if its the stress or the meds???

Yes, Louise, about three months after my bilateral TKR I lost about 1/2 my hair. I was so upset (it became very apparent when I was in the hospital for an umbilical hernia) as the nurses saw all the hair on my pillow. For me, the most likely reason was surgical stress (from the knees) and it is most common either three or six months after your surgery. Now that I'm at 7 months, I've got all these baby hairs growing in. As if having knees replaced wasn't enough, I had to go through all that hair loss stress!

Hi Louise - a friend who has medical background has told me that hair loss/thinning after major surgery is the result of a drop in ferritin levels in the blood (not the same as haemoglobin apparently which can give rise to anaemia) but it is a form of iron component in the blood. You could ask a pharmacist if theres anything that would help. But I know a healthy diet rights things naturally in time - guess the body takes a big shock with tkrs and its not surprising it takes time to return to a normal healthy status. Hope you get there soon!

Thank you for that my hair is so thin now just hope it grows quick

I know its awful to have these things happen - and my hair isn't v thick at the best of times!! But don't worry it will improve over time!

Hi Tess an anaesthetic cons friend of mine told me to take a vitamin B Complex today thats for the blood and it also fights tiredness and fatigue he swears by it but he did say uve to take it for 3/4 weeks before you feel any benefit??? I bought some today from Asda very expensive at 99p lol

Yes, vitamin B is important. I've ben taking Biotin and originally was putting some prescrition oils in my hair. I've seeing good results.

Also heard this and have been taking vits b & c since op - anything that helps got to be good!

I have always had very thick hair but it's not thick any longer. It was coming out by the brushfuls for weeks and has finally stopped doing that at about 6 months. It seems for me that everything got much better at the 6 month mark. But anyway my hair is still much thinner than it used to be, and it heartening to read that it may grow back.

Gonna start takin mine this morning x

Hi,

Last year I had pneumonia ( yes, I know ... Who else gets pneumonia in an Australian summer?)

Anyway, that was before my TKR, and my hair fell out in handfuls. My doctor said it was from the trauma of pneumonia.

The good news is, it does stop, and it does grow back.

I massaged my scalp twice a day with my head upside down, for 5 minutes. I also used Schwarzkopf ultimate repair treatment.

Then I started taking Blackmore's Nail, Hair and Skin supplements.

You lucky bugs in England can eat a jelly cube straight from the pack each day, that's really good. Only get jelly powder here.

Caz x
