Hi there,
If you are suffering from from low mood/depression and have associated anxiety an antidepressant may help; however if your symptoms are predominantly anxiety related then it is unlikely. In EXTREME cases where somebody is unable to think straight, eat or sleep for an extended period due to extreme anxiety a course of anti-anxiety medication may be necessary i.e. benzodiazapines. This is in general viewed as a quick, temporary fix, which should not be prescribed lightly or for an extended period due to possible dependency. However, if it is necessary for a short period of time to provide a window of opportunity to work on tackling the problem it could be beneficial.
It sounds like this is a new problem and resorting to medication would be premature. What about a course of CBT? You could discuss this wtih your GP, self-refer to IAPT (if in the UK) or even seek some self-help or internet based courses. The princples are straight forward, but the techniques take practice. This can give you a longer term foundation for tackling anxiety than medication.
Good luck with it and don't despair. Everyone experiences this!!! It is simply a fight or flight survival mechanism. The only difference is that some people do when it is not benefitial.
It is unpleasant, but that is all. You will not have a heart attack, you will not pass out and it always has to pass (becuase the adrenaline runs out).
Anxiety tablets do work, I know, even if you just take them for a few months, they really do take that dread feeling away
So far im okay, all my symptoms seems to have gone. I think my loneliness is triguering my anxiety but i dont think i'll need medication. Thanks for your advice.
