I would like to know if anyone has had a resurfacing or other hip replacement besides whole hip replacement. Has anyone tried any other options first like stem cell or other things?
I went to see two UK leading stem cell surgeons in the run up to my surgery, I even had an exploratory operation to see if stem cell would work. Stem cells do not work very well in the hip area particularly if you have arthritis or some other form of illness, as it attacks the new cells and kills them. Neither surgeon thought it would work for me, as I also have a shallow hip too. It is worth seeing someone if you can, I believe it will one day replace a hip replacement, but not for a while and not routinely for the foreseeable.
I also considered hip resurfacing, but the two surgeons I spoke to about this said the benefit would be very short term if it worked at all, it tends to not work well with female patients, and I would not a hip replacement anyway. Resurfacing is quite a big operation in itself and I did not fancy ending up having to have both once the resurfacing failed.
Steroid injections into the bone were also tried, they work well for some patients, mine lasted three weeks and was enough to convince to get this problem fixed permanently.

Me, fit bloke agad 57yrs some 14 years ago, had a resurfacing in Oxford as considered the best operation for fit people of both sexes and less invasive.
Since then, there is SOME evidence that suggests ions of heavy metals leak into bloodsteam, and it is done less now, esp on females. Evidence is also tied up with FASHION however!!
Me, still pretty fit bloke aged 71yrs, needed other hip done some 12 months ago. Offered Exeter hip, a smoother and more streamlined version of THR. took it. no resurfacing available here!
Both hips happy and well. Whatever you do, and if you need do have an op do so sooner rather than later - the operation has saved my life and sanity

Like you I have tried researching alternatives to THR, after all surgery involving bones and muscles seems rather drastic for the sake of what in my case appears to be a bit of missing cartilage.
Surely there must be a better answer?
Apparently stem cell research is a long way from being ready certainly in my life time ,already in my 80th year.
Thought you might be interested in something I came across on the internet.
A study by Queen Mary University of London indicates that cartilage could be treated by patient's own `Microvesicles`
