Having surgery on Friday!

I received a phone call yesterday offering me surgery this Friday, as a cancellation had come up on another list at another hospital in Birmingham. So I am going over for my pre op assessment this morning, and then have to go in at 8am on Friday.

I am so happy to have got to this point, but am pretty nervous. I have been feeling so rough lately. I felt in a lot of pain just before going on holiday a week and a half ago, and the first night away I experienced the worst pain I have had so far. If I was at home I would have phoned for an ambulance, but didn't want to spoil the holiday for my family, and knew the nearest hospital was a long way away. Really hoping this operation will get me onto the road to recovery, and feeling better.

Hi Lynne,

Sorry to hear you have been so poorly I know it can be so debilitating I had my operation to remove my gallbladder in February of this year. Like you I was called unexpectedly and slotted in quickly which gave me little time to worry ! I was very nervous and anxious but now with the relief of no pain and day to day nausea it's the best thing I have ever done ! The very best of luck to you you won't look back

Lisa

I remember feeling like that. I too got a cancellation and had to attend for pre op next day! Probably the best thing I ever did. I had open surgery due to a number of stones lodged in my bile duct that couldn't be removed by ERCP. The labs found a growth and five weeks after surgery, I had liver resection surgery.

Having the gallbladder out when I did has probably saved my life as most gallbladder cancers are found when it's too late. I feel so much better four months on- better than I have in years. Can't understand why some people want to hang onto their sick gallbladders when it makes them feel so ill and it's also very risky.

You will feel rough following surgery, but you improve with each day. Keep that thought in mind!

Hi lynne I had my gallbladder removed 11days ago by keyhole the first few night are uncomfortable because you can't lay on your sides the worse bit 4 me was I had 2 have a drain once that was out it was fine I am now getting better each day but feel very tired still so take it easy after & do what your body tells you i.e. Rest good luck & keep us informed of your progress 😊

Hi Lynne, it always seems to be a long wait to get to this point but now you have a date. I know how nervous and scared you must be as I was too but for me anyway it wasn't as bad as I thought and the nursing staff were wonderful. They really looked after me until I was ready to go home.

You do feel a bit rough for a few days but thats normal, just sleep and get up and walk around the house. I spent most of my time on the settee. Take pain relief if you feel you need it and look after yourself.

Its normal not to eat too much at the beginning, I munched on digestive biscuits and drank lots of tea!

Good luck for Friday and rest, rest, rest when you get back home and let us know how you are, when you feel upto it. Take care xx

Good luck for Friday . Let us know how you get on when

you feel up to it ! x

I had my Gallbladder removed two weekss ago at Good Hope Birmingham they were very good. You will be fine

Good luck

Oh that's good to hear! I was supposed to be at Heartlands with Mr Singhal, but I have been moved to Good Hope with Mr Fallis.

You will be fine I was nervous I got to Good Hope for 8am and they said I was first on list I cried a bit through nerves op was at 9am and I was discharged by 3.30. They were lovely and very caring. Two weeks later I back to work this coming Friday still little achey but not too bad. But you will be fine all the best for Friday

Thankyou. I have to go in at 1pm. On the afternoon list. Do you think I'll still be out on the same day?

I would think so prob 7ish maybe ..as long as you feel ok and eat something and go toilet and they happy they will let you go. I was very sick after anaesthetic but I was still allowed home..I think they have a 4 hour turnaround time. Just relax and do

Nothing for first week minimum then maybe second week do light walking etc don't put pressure on yourself to recover too quickly.

Good luck for tomorrow Lynn. It's normal to be nervous, but once it's over you'll be glad you are rid of your gallbladder.

Im only nine days post op, and have had the added complication of a bad back, completely in spasm, which has made gerptting around difficult.

Despite all that I'm doing ok, biggest problem has been the dreaded wind, which I'm sure would never have got to this had I been able to walk it off. With tablets from my GP it's improved a lot.

I was kept in hospital overnight but I wasn't taken until 15.30.   Wasn't  bad thing as pain relief was given as needed!  And I was home by lunchtime.

Just shout, if you've any questions once you get home.

Good luck.
