I'm a 20 year student old female, quite healthy and for three months I have been suffering from chest pains and various other symptoms.
I've always been paranoid about my heart but only because whenever I would drink coffee or over excersise I would get palpatations.
One day three months ago I had some really bad palpatations from a large cup of coffee and from the next day onwards I have been having mild chest pains.
I only had the chest pains at first, they are maily on the left side, sometimes sharp, sometimes achy. I also have the same in my left arm. I went to the GP and have been to A&E three times about this. I've had three rounds of blood tests, ECG's and an X-ray which have all come back clear (expect for the ECG which stated I had innapropriate sinus tachycardia).
Im very guilty of googling symptoms and since doing so I have began to experience many many others. My back occasionally hurts, my teeth, both arms (but mainly left) the left side of my jaw kills to open. I also get occasional twitching around my chest, arms, legs and arms. My chest pains are sometimes on the right side.
My newest symptoms are twitching around my eyes and a tingly feeling on the left side of my face, and a pain in my throat. I've also noticed an irregular rhythm occasionly in my pulse, like a skipped beat here and there.
It's all driving me crazy! I've always been a happy outgoing person but this is ruining me. I'm always scared something bad is going to happen, I hate being on my own, loud noices etc make me nervous. I just doing know what to do. My GP thinks it musculorskeletal and that I have anxiety. I know that a lot of my symptoms do sound like anxiety and the more I've google things the more symptoms I've started to have but I need something to put my mind a rest.
I've booked another GP appointment to ask for more tests done because otherwise my mind will just keep convincing me more and more.
Would be great if people could give me some advise or share their stories!
Hey I sorry for how you have been feeling but it sounds like there is nothing serious wrong with you. I am sure they would of picked something up by now. Stress can do crazy things to the human body. If you need someone to talk to let me know I have suffered from anxiety for the last few years and I hope I am on the road to beating it. The docs said I had health anxiety which I didn't some people just worry more than others, If I was you I would stay off the coffee and don't push yourself to hard when you exercise.
Hi I suffer from health anxiety and it does sound like you may be suffering the same. I'm 34 year old and first had it 5 years ago, had cognitive behavior therapy and it was under control until a few weeks ago. I'm now waiting for CBT again. I'd ask your gp to refer you for counselling if possible. It really helps change the way you think and process thoughts. Also stay away from Dr Google. Its awful if you have health anxiety as even an everyday complaint like headache can be deemed to be something serious on there. I spent a lot of time googling illnesses and now I'm so aware of tiny changes in my body and I'm so in tune with it its horribl . Good luck
that is terrible for you to feel that way. i hope you find some ways to take your mind off it all. i agree that cbt could help you. and yes, do stay away from dr. google. a little misplaced knowledge will drive you crazy. you are in dr's care, try to have faith in their abilities and experience. i also am continuously amazed at how my anxiety can make me feel so terrible physically. but, maybe realising that your head and thoughts are strong enough to make you feel znwell, you probably have the mental ability to help yourself feel better. try to talk yourself down from the thoughts. you have the power to get rid of these thoughts. it may be small victories at first, but they will come and you can beat this!
"Try to talk yourself down from the thoughts" - that is really good advice and something Ive been doing while I wait for my CBT appointment. When I have a pain, ache or worrying thought I rationalise it in my head and turn it from a negative to positive (like i get a pain in my back, I panic then remember Ive been lifting my children a lot or that I did an exercise DVD the night before). Doesnt always work but give it a go
