Health Anxiety??

Hi I've been ill for a year, been through a huge amount of life stress and then got glandular fever a year ago and had a lot of trouble with my thyroid levels too though that is gradually being resolved. But I have weird symptoms that are unexplained - sometimes my vision gets distorted and I feel like the room is sliding away from me, I get funny turns which might be panic attacks where my vision goes funny and I feel like I'm dying and I get really shivery. Also when I walk around I get dizzy a lot, usually it is ok if I sit or lie down. I also vomit a lot. Sometimes I get pins and needles down left side of face and body. Doctors haven't found anything from blood tests, I am a nervous wreck after tolerating these symptoms so long, I can't work and I'm starting to dread even walking to toilet because I feel dizzy upright. I think some of it might be migraines I don't know. Help this is intolerable x

health anxiety can feel very disabling, rather than focus on the physical problems (which are probably due to anxiety), try getting help for the root anxiety

It sounds to me you could be experiencing depersonalize disorder which I have on occasion. It feels like tunnel vision like your in a dream. Headache could be anxiety and me too have not been working but I'm a young mom and I have to keep pushing. I hope you feel better

Thankyou, what sort of help do you recommend?

Thankyou, do you get help with it? Has anything made it better?

Hi rose I've got anxiety i get blurred vision i feel like I am walking on a trampoline and feel like the walls and floors are moving up and down

For me therapy works well, meds don't solve issues, they can just help symptoms short term . There are many different kinds of therapy, CBT is common but i found it useless. A Dr should refer you to psychotherapy with no problems and they will discuss the best type for you

Yes I get that too! It's so horrible it makes me feel like something wrong with my brain. How do you cope?

Ok thanls I will ask the doctor but last time the waiting list was months and months, I might see if I can somehow get it quicker my parents might pay as we are desperate :-(

All are right i feel like it's my brain how long have you been feeling like that. My balance feel worse to the left. The doctor said it's anxiety I've started to take sertraline it is helping have you been to the doctors about how you feel

I just went to the doctor now, she thinks I have labyrinthitis and gave me some pills for that - hope they work!!

I hope they work for you if you don't get better go and see Ent he will send you for Vestibular rehabilitation therapy exercise

Hope the tablets work if not ask to see a ENt he send you for Vestibular rehabilitation exercises it will help with your dizziness and balance

Ok thanks I will. Doctor couldn't see anything wrong with my ears but thinks it's viral. Going back tomorrow for check up.

Do you feel exhausted all the time too? It's possible you may have M.E./CFS which can follow on from glandular. That's what happened to me over 20 years ago and unfortunately I've still got it but there are things you can do to manage it.

Yes exhausted all the time :-( doctors think I might have chronic fatigue/me but are investigating other things first. I managed to get quite a lot improved before Xmas by gradual building up but some other health probs knocked back to square one. Are you able to work? Any tips?

No nothing helps it. It's kind of

Just something I deal with. I tell my self I'm not going to die I will be ok. It happens when I'm really stressed and my anxiety is really high.. are you stressed?

Poor you, hope it gets better with time. Yeah i am stressed but I am a bit less anxious now that the doctor has told me it is an inner ear problem - so I'm dizzy all the time at the moment, they gave me some pills that stopped me being sick but walking around is practically impossible!

I managed to work part time for about 10 years but had loads of relapses and was off sick a lot and eventually they got rid of me. Haven't been well enough to work since but it's actually a relief not having the pressure of being well enough to go to work - just have less money!!

You might find it useful to look up the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome forum on this website and read through some of other peoples stories as you might be able to relate to some of them if the doctors suspect you have CFS.

I had CBT and found it really helpful. I also pace myself, try to eat a healthy diet, do gentle walking and yoga and listen to relaxation CDs to help me relax and switch off my often overactive mind!

Hope you get a proper diagnosis soon so you know what's wrong.

Thankyou for the tips. Sorry you've been unwell so long. I had a little look on cf forum and it scared me to hear about people who hadn't been able to get out of bed for ten years and things like that. The idea of getting better is the only thing keeping me sane, I can accept taking things easier and doing less etc but if I lose my job I'll lose my home and everything as it's only me and then I don't know what I'd do.
