Heart anxiety or genuine problem with my heart

for months now i havent had it, but all of a sudden i again i went to sleep and woke up suddenly with my heart beating fast and trying to catch my breath. also throughout the day my heart has a sinking feeling and palpitates. WTF IS WRONG WITH ME.

Hello, It sounds like anxiety but have you ever had it checked?

hi Amy, this does sound like anxiety, i suffer with health anxiety mainly cardio phobia and know exactly what you are going through. I get palpitations with shortness of breath and the heart sinking feeling is really scary. I am now doing CBT and meditation everyday with breathing exercises which seems to be slowly helping. PM me if you ever need someone to speak to.

ive had an ecg before but think they just said i had an extra beat or missed beat not sure

Hey Amy..That's what exactly I was experienced just yesterday ...I woke up at 6am instead of 10am...with very fast heart rate, sweating ,crazy shakiness and some weird feeling...I had to call the ambulance ...All the test came back negative ...Anxiety ...

The fast heart rate wakes me up and feel like im not breathing for a second so have to take some proper deep breathes to calm down and slow my heart rate. after a few minutes im ok. was that the same for you apart from ringing the ambulance?

yes

its very weird! not a nice feeling at all and quite scary!

Hi Amy I have been looking for something just like this , where you can chat to people who are going through similar experiences. I suffer with panic attacks/ anxiety, its actually a panic disorder i believe. I have woken up gasping for breath too and have suffered palpitations at night ( mine seem to be mostly through the day) Its difficult sometimes as to which triggers one or the other off ...anxiety causing palpitations or palpitations causing the anxiety . I personally do not think its always anxiety that triggers them ,as they happen randomly when i am not anxious or even thinking about it
I have palpitations most days , although i do have some better days
I had a very scary experience this morning when i must of had, what felt like maybe a few one after another . My heart just felt totally out of rhythm it was horrible. Needless to say i have been feeling anxious all day since .

I obviously do not know your age, but i do wonder if some of it is age related for me ?? Whatever the reason, i feel like i am going mad some days. It would be lovely to just feel fit and normal again . Hoping you feel better mow.

Rebecca, I hope you don't mind me asking as you mention age. Are you anywhere around perimenopause at all?

I ask because this is an age when a lot of women seem to start with palps.

im 25! so not entirely sure if its age related! Might have a heart problem who knows or im just scaring myself into having one. Ive been quite an anxious person for many years so im not sure if i caused it

Hi Amy i have had the same its caused by pent up stress and tension . its your bodys way of releasing it. Its horrible but try not be too impressed by it it cant harm you. If you want a chat inbox me .

hi im here if you need to talk . ive experienced the same x

Hi Sasical I am 49...so well on the way to menopause i would say. yes i have read, that hormone imbalance can cause palpitations. Do you suffer from thus too?

Hi Lila Thank you! It is such a horrible feeling. Do you suffer with them often? How long have you been suffering with them? x

Hi Amy You are still very young then. I am an anxious person, and i suffered with anxiety when i was young. For whatever reason it seems to of caught up with me again . It does sound as if you are suffering from anxiety, have you had any tests or checks at all?

ive had tests before like en ecg...they just said i have an extra beat or something sometimes. Im not totally sure but they didnt do anything about it apart from put me on pronanolol to try and calm my anxiety down

I suffered with this very badly in perimenopause. And I mean very badly. I was taken to hospital by ambulance a few times. I was put on low dose propanolol and that, together with the fact that I am now much nearer to actual menopause and I don't seem to get it any longer.

I have had different tests etc... i was also told that i have ectopic beats I was then also told that i have stage 1 heart block, which apparently the doctor was not concerned about . They say it is just a delay between beats ? It certainly didnt help with my anxiety, im thinking maybe i would of been better off not knowing? Do you feel any better on the meds? or do you find yourself struggling daily?

Hi Sasical I am glad to hear you now no longer suffer with it, and that hopefully you feel a lot better . You mention your trips to hospital, was that down to anxiety or palpitations?
