Hi again,
Just been reading an article in the Mail from 2012.
It says that the recommendation to doctors is not to prescribe more than 20mg of Citalopram for the over 65s. It could cause heart problems
Anyone heard of this?
I am in my 64th year and my doctor is thinking of putting me up to 30 mg.
I am a little concerned by this, as I have heart problems in my family.
Best wishes
Sophie ☺ x
Hi Sophie. I'm 68 and I have been on 30mg for two without any problems. I have regular checkups and so far I have ill effects from this dosage
Hi Sophie,
I think any medication no matter what age comes with risks. Your GP obviously knows your medical history etc.....as long as you are monitored on the higher dose, and suggest this to your doctor.
Good Luck!
Hi again also, with good reason u should b concerned, my mom had some similar concerns! That's y asking these questions here can really help! I have found u really wanna trust ur Dr, but mine prescribed me with 2 different anti depressants that I should not have been taking b cause they interacted with Tamoxifin ( breast cancer med) that I was taking! So I try and research and ask questions a lot on my own! I have heard about heart troubles on this also, but nothing concrete! Keep checking into it, and best of luck🌷
I am 74 and had no problem. CIT simply saved my life. Im at 20 mg
I believe the maximum dose was reduced to 40mg. I also read articles relating to this. I'm sure you're fine, but do uh eck with your doctor.

Seriously, this spell check!! uh eck was meant to say 'check' :-)
HI Sophie,
Also heart problems in my Family. I am currently on 40mg one night 30mg the next as a gradual and slow reduction. I had ECG, tests etc half way through this (first) period of medication and everything was fine.
Do not read out of date magazines and think we haven't moved on! I think three years later we do know this utter rubbish newspaper has no intention of telling the truth and it is not the case.
Forget everything apart from you getting better! No one goes over 40mgs. You are safe, get yersen better!
The very Best,
David
