HELP! I get a UTI every single month!!

First off, let me start by saying I have seen specialists, I have taken countless amounts of antibiotics and I follow every rule known to man to avoid UTIs.

I've been getting them for about 4 years now. The last specialist I went to gave me a 2 year supply of bactrim and clearly it doesn't work. I am extremely clean. I wipe front to back, I wash before and after intercourse (as does my partner), I always relieve my bladder before and after intercourse as well. I drink about a gallon of lemon water a day. I also drink a cup of warm lemon honey water when I wake up and right before I go to sleep (as this carries a lot of antibiotic properties). I take vitamins that promote healthy vaginal walls and bladders. NOTHING WORKS!

I have to pee all the time. I'm also getting recurrent yeast and vaginosis infections which I believe are causing the UTIs but I can't seem to shake those either. This is seriously ruining my life! I'm miserable!!! I've had so many tests done including a cervical cancer biopsy and countless blood work. Even had them inject dye into my bladder and take xrays.. Everything came back normal. I have been tested for STDs more times than I can count and I always comes back clean.

I am starting to think this is related to my birth control. I have the implant in my arm. I looked back on this and realized that the one time in the last 4 years I didn't have UTIs or any infections was the 6 months I was off of the depo-provera shot. Then I went and got the implant and my symptoms started again. I am planning on taking out the implant but wanted to see if any other women had this same issue?

I read something about an injection directly into the bladder to cure this? Any advice will help. I have also tried just about EVERY SINGLE over the counter product on the planet. I have wasted so much money. I just want a solution. WTF IS GOING ON?!!!

Hello.

I honestly feel like you're explaining what I fear. I've been getting UTIs every single month for around 6 months now, and everyday I feel like one is coming back which ruins my day & I am constantly worried about getting them. I have had tests too and all come back clean, negative, fine & yet I keep getting them. I have been clear of Uti for 2 weeks now but the last one took two different courses of antibiotics which is showing that my body isn't responding to treatment as good anymore. I fear I'm gonna get these all the time. Every time I urinate now I get burning pain after like UTI for around 15-30 minutes after. It's horrible and I live in constant fear. Like you ive tried everything over the counter and all the home remedies and yet my doctors still won't prescribe me a permanent prescription ecause all my tests my tests come back clear. even though every day I experience pain. I don't know what to do either. I'm on the pill which tbh now that you've said it i only started to get UTI's since I started taking the pill. I though condoms where giving me UTI so stopped using them & still got them so thought it was cleaning before and after sex which I do now but still managed to get one. Now I fear to have sex I literally put it off due to the fear of getting UTis. Now that you've said about it being like birth control I think that might be what it could be for me? I'll have to look into it! Before I was on the pill I never got UTIs now I've been on the pill for around just over 6 months I've constantly got them!

I hope you get better and find out what is causing your UTIs. I really hope they hurry up with this vaccination which could cure UTIs!

X

Yes you sound like you feel my misery! This is actually the second time in my life this has happened to me. About 12 years ago when I was first sexually active and got on the pill then changed the shot, I used to get UTIs all the time. When I got off birth control I was free from this misery for 3 years. Then I got a new partner and got on my birth control again and it started again. We broke up for about 6 months so I went off the shot and had no infection for 6 months..and when we got back together I got back on birth control (implant) and I've been in pain ever since.

The problem is that these urologists just overlook our symptoms and misery and throw antibiotics at us and eventually the bacteria becomes superior to the drugs so its recurrent. I'm going to speak with my doctor about an alternative treatment like amikin injection and then get rid of my birth control to see if that helps. I really don't know what else to do.

I know its nothing I'm doing as I have taken every preventative measure I possibly can.

Exactly my pain.

Doctors and urologists just fob us off with antibiotics and don't even bother looking deeper into the problem. The last time I got UTI was the first time a doctor 'examined me' before prescribed me medication. Every doctor before that just gave me antibiotics and I was done, and all the last doctor did was push down on my stomach. They just don't care as much as they should. UTI is horrible. I just spoke to my partner about it being my birth control, and he was literally like 'omg yes, that's probably exactly what it is' it's the only answer. I'm meant to go back for my next 6 month prescription of my pill but imma speak to them about it causing UTI and I might just stop taking my pill for the next couple of months and if I'm UTI free I will know it's my pill and try other alternatives. Literally reading this post is like a life saver, I really do believe it might be my birth control now! X

Well I hope for both of our sake's, it is the birth control. I told my boyfriend that I would much rather have ten babies than continue to deal with this!

It seriously gets in the way of your life!

Having suffered like you for years. My doctor diagnosed it as Vulvodynia and prescribed Nortriptyline. It seemed to work initially but I kept having to increase the dose to get the same relief as I experienced when I first started taking it.

Now I hear there is an association with this type of drug and dementia, so the future looks bleak and painful one way or another.

Yeah I'm fairly certain that's not what's going for me. I'd really rather not risk dementia .. there's gotta be a better way! My memory is bad enough as it is! Haha

I don't know the more I look into it, the more it seems like the root cause is in fact birth control. I'm discussing this with my doctor on Friday.

This used to happen to me too, although it was every other month or so. I do think it has something to do with estrogen. It stopped for me after I was prescribed Cipro (very strong, reserved for only resistant bacteria), AND after I made a bunch of changes that I thought of on my own ( in other words, no Dr told me to do these things.) All this may sound like overkill, but I was desperate. The changes I made were:

1. Always washing my underwear in very hot water (I add a kettle of boiling water to the washing machine's hottest water) and rinsing twice using the hottest setting to make sure the laundry detergent is completely rinsed out.

2. Using a handheld bidet every time I use the bathroom at home. Bought mine from Amazon.

3. Taking a probiotic every day or so. (I use Phillip's and switch to RePhresh Pro B  toward the end of each period.)

4. Not wearing sanitary pads, except at night. Changing tampons often.

5. Changing my diet to gluten-free and sugar-free, which I theorize changes the environment down there. :-)

Since making these changes, I haven't had a UTI in almost a year now. yippee!

I hope this helps others. Having chronic UTIs is miserable!

One more thing...

6. Staying away from spicy food, especially chili oil. I used to get uti's only after eating spicy Chinese food, so I researched and found out, sure enough, spicy foods can give some people a uti or urinary tract discomfort. I don't want anything that might cause irritation, so goodbye chili oil and spicy food. If I really want some, I eat a little and drink milk and a bunch of water afterward. But I can usually find something mild that I like just as much.

Hi emmy18124:

I have had chronic UTI's since I was 21. As well, I've been under the microscope for years and given all sorts of antibiotics and otc's and nothing has 'prevented' me from these UTI's happening again.

I've never heard of Cipro though and your ordeal sounds like you hv done plenty of research and evaluation and are a walking miracle!

Do u remember what mg your Doctor put you on? To start or follow up etc?

How often did u take it with your daily probiotic etc?

I have had recovering UTI's for the past six or seven months. I have every test done on my bladder and everything comes back normal. My specialist cannot explain why I keep on getting them, he said some people are just prone to getting them and I happen to be one of them. I am on antibiotics again and will be using cream as well to see if the cream will build up the wall in my private areas. I hope it does because not only does is stress me out, it is hitting me financially as well.

Ok so here is my regime and it protects me daily. I also come from a monthly infection situation.

1. Rephrase Pro B 1 tablet daily probably in the am and 1 tablet in the pm bf dinner .

2. AZO Yeast Homeopathic Medicine 2 tablets in the am and 1 in the pm bf dinner.

After 8 days just 1 tablet ev day of the Pro B & 1 tablet daily of the AZO.

Good Luck.

After my last pregnancy and during mind you I had uti's constantly. Nothing helped.. I changed everything, diet, hygiene habits, nothing could break the cycle that occurred every other week, a uti!

I had a difficult birth and was experiencing pain in my back, I had visited an osteopath to try and get some relief and found my pelvis was out of position, what a relief.

Going through the questionnaire of health on my initial visit to him one of the boxes was frequent uti's.. I checked it and when he began going throughy health history he asked me about it, I explained that I like many people am just prone to uti's (a phrase I had taken from my doctor).

After fixing my pelvis he had a feel for my organs (not all osteopaths have experience with this but luckily mine did). Turns out my bladder was twisted, I am assuming from pregnancy. The way he explained it the way everything is connected made perfect sense. I was even having flank pain in my kidneys occasionally and that was all connected as well.

Although I am happy this was the case for me, I have been free of a uti for almost a year, I know this isn't the case for everyone. I just know that the answer given my doctors that there are just people prone to them, isn't always the case!

Hi

I'm 15 years old and i've had UTI's my whole life - NONE STOP

I've been to every specialist where I live I spent thousands of dollars trying to find an answer. At first they thought it was reflux and i did all of the tests - it turns out it was for nothing.. All my insides are fine EXCEPT I've got an EXTRA URETER (which in some cases causes reflux) - search it up..

It sounds like we are on the same page though..

My parents refuse to let me do anything, i spend most of my school days at home. I'm falling behind in all of my subjects because of it.

I've taken at least 120 UTI tests throughout my life and now immune to all antibiotics.

They have found no answers.

They say I'm prone to UTI's.

I've been having uti's for months now. Mine is related to sex and has nothing to do with birth control I haven't taken birth control for more than 6 years. It started when I had sex while I was holding my pee. Then they gave me antibiotics that my uti was resistant of. Then I got the right one and came right back a week later. Then I had to go on it again. And again. Then I stopped having sex and I was perfectly fine. I'm having sex again with the same guy and it came back again. I also suffer from recurring/Chronic yeast infections due to sex. After paying close attention I realized I get uti's when he goes in too deep and it kinda hurts and the yeast happens when I'm too dry. It's hard to keep an eye when you're in the moment. I don't know why I got this uti I have right now. And my insurance doesn't cover anything until I spend $3,000 out of pocket. So I'm out of luck. I am seriously and heavily considering stop having sex for ever. I know it's not fare for the love of my life. But he deserves to have a woman that will give him a normal sex life. An I deserve to stop having to go through this pain all the time. On the plus side my uti's and yeast infections take turns. One stops the other one ends. I would go even crazier if I would have to deal with both. The uti I have right now did not even respond to Cipro. So hopefully I get better or just get use to live with pain and the worst smelling urine in the world. I feel bad for the people that have to use the bathroom after me. Thanks for reading! God luck to all! And God bless!!!

Ask your doc to try nitrofurantoin it's a antibiotic I found thAt works does upset the belly with no food.

I'm immune to cipro it sucks anyways. Go to urgent care a visit is like 40-50$ for a uti. Also talk about how you keep getting it back maybe he can give you some doses to take in between. It's weird until I got antibiotic shots I was getting them a lot and now it's tapered off.

Apply for medical they might approve you

Hello! I recently got the birth control implant in my arm and ever sense I've suffered from Utis before my period and during . I think it's interstitial cystitis but I'm not sure as I'm too scared to see a professional

Get some home uti tests, never assume its ic until you dont actually have a uti and still have symptoms.

If you have a uti on a home test just go in and get meds. Usually if you get a uti right after another those meds wernt strong enough to kill it off.

OMGoodness thank you, I was once on drool shot for birth control, that may need when my UTIs started, now I'm on the pill, have been following the rules to not get them yet I'm in pain again from one now.I told my Obgyn something else is wrong, he said we'll get ultrasound if pain doesn't go away. Condoms seem to be able to cause same problem (I'm not having a child, 3 stepkids and oldest having a baby enough for me) I see a urologist tomo supposed to leave for Georgia this Thursday and is Monday 12:28am now. What the hell am I supposed to do? I wonder, hope, I can get ultrasound before Thursday, leave home at 8 am for airport. I don't want to suffer through vacation, non refundable, serious can't reschedule plans. Well ultrasound and mention kidneys may show something. Time after time. Thank you for pointing out pill, never thought of that one.
