Help-just started citalopram 10mg (Celexa)...more Anxiety!!!

I just started medication for anxiety. It is 10 mg citalopram (Celexa). Have taken it for two nights. I am suddenly more anxious than ever. I know it takes time to be effective, but how do I get there because it has tripled my anxiety. What do I do to get through this phase? What else can I do or take?! Help!!!!

Ask your doc for some diazepam or something to help you through first two weeks.I was on it for 4 yrs til 3 weeks ago I had sertraline then but didn't suit me after 2 weeks gone back to citalapram but doc gave me tranquilisers while my body adjusts again

I have both Xanax and Valium. Do you know which is better for that? I really don't like taking meds at all.

I don't think much between them neither really worked for me but in the end after trying several me and doc decided to stick with one and we went with Valium

I've been taking it for almost 3 weeks already,& the first week or two are the worst....the side affects will pass,u just gotta stay strong...I also have atarax to get through the bad feelings when needed....day by day I'm feeling better...the anxiety is still there, but I feel it slowly going away!!!I was on celexa for 4 years and it helped me get my life back!!!got off of it in may cause I was so much better, then had to get back on it about 3 weeks ago cause me anxiety came back stronger....starting all over again, but I gotta be better for my kids!!!IT WILL PASS....STAY STRONG...IT'S WORTH IT AT THE END!!!!!

I'm going through this now. Don't want to go out because I get anxiety. How are you now????

I am so sorry you are Jennifer! I switched the newer version of Celexa to Lexapro 5 mg (escitalopram) there is no down time as they are nearly the same. But I am doing wonderful! You can do it!!! Please just hang in there and I will say prayers for you! For me, it was much better after 1 week and then even better after 2 weeks. Basically normal after 3 weeks. You can get there too, just hang on. If, you can switch to Lexapro it may be easier, but either is just fine. Please feel free to reach out to me
