Hello there. I have experienced 3 bouts of intense stomach virus/ gastroentiritis type attacks in the last 6 months. The second one left me with Ulcerative Colitis in rectum which is now controlled well with meds. However, i still get the 'attacks' which are not the colitis. The doctors have tested for bacteria and usual bloods but they are always the same and it's a very sudden onset (within a few hours); sore throat, severe migraine, nausea, severe diarrhea like with food poisoning and severe stomach cramps. I cant eat or drink anything for 3 days and then i'm very week for up to a month afterwards and bed bound. With the first attacks, 5 people in my extended family had the same symptoms but they recovered very quickly. I live in an ashram community of 200 people in Portigal, we all eat the same food and drink spring water. I'm so confused as the doctor says its colitis but i feel the 'attacks' are not colitis and are clearly something else which triggered the colitis which i also had as a teenager for 15 years so i know what colitis symptoms are like. Can anyone help please i'm quite desperate :-(
I am so sorry to hear. You'll need to get more tests done - H Pylori, ultrasound, endoscopy, probably stool sample. Talk to your doctor about food intolerances such as dairy and gluten. For now just eat a very bland diet and drink lots of water.
thank you so much Farah bless you
