I was originally referred to a Colorectal Surgeon as I had an anal skin tag that has been something I wanted to get rid of for over 15 years.
Upon examination I was told I had hemorrhoids and that the skin tag could be removed as part of that surgery.
I often had a streak of blood upon wiping, never anything significant, and with no external hemorrhoids I had just put this down to straining.
During the pre-op examination I was told that I have Diverticular disease and that I should eat more fibre.
I had the surgery 6 weeks ago. To be honest the pain has been completely manageable, and I have stopped weeping. But now I have been left with a skin tag bigger than before and a sensation that I need to squeeze/constantly hold myself (not sure if this is caused by the tag).
Feeling a bit lost at the moment… the announcement that I had a disease whilst bent over having a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy with no further guidance has left me reeling some what, but googling what it is might explain the sharp pains I get in my left hand side. The whole procedure was a rush as the Surgeon was running two hours late.
I had a similar experience with my Op. The Surgeon rushed in, asked that I explain what operation I was having and then proceeded to tell me they had already explained everything. To this day I do not know what they did, were the hemorrhoids simply cut and stitched, or were they cauterised? I was not aware skin tags were a possible outcome. And now I feel like I am in a worse position than when I started!
Any words of wisdom please? ![]()
