My wife had Hiatus Hernia surgey 7 days ago.. her stomach has sever bloating and is hard as a rock she looks and feels 9 months prego. she has very little gas and hasent gone BM since surgey.. Is this Normal
Hi Jeffrey I had hiatus hernia surgery in October last year was in a lot of discomfort after op for about 4 wk,lot of pain in shoulders and problems getting things stuck after I eat but never had any bloating you maybe best getting in touch with her surgeon just to check everything is ok
I had my repair 4 weeks ago tomorrow. I'm back at work and eating normally but eating smaller portions. Only side effect I had (so far, touch wood !) was not going to the loo until 4-5 days post op, although I did have wind.
I persisted with the laxatives & nature took its course & felt immeasurably better!
Good luck to your wife!
Hi There,
Yes constipation is something I've been having problems with post -op. I asked for a prescription when I went to my docs for a check up. Unfortunately it is a problem I am still having 9 weeks on - I'm going to get checked out again as I am wondering what I can do to help myself - the movicol doctor gave me can be pretty severe!
Hope your wife feels better soon!
I do believe tat after stomach surgery you do have bloating. They apparently pump you full of air to be able to get a better go at the organs. BM are sometimes delAYED nd once you have treatment to Go it is like giving birth to a 10lb baby so i am told.A lot of Hiatal hernia opps are unnecessary. It is usually IBS that caused the hernia from straining to vacate thebowel because of food intolerance. Most people treated for H.H have severe haemhoroids cause from the straining. hope she gets some relief.
thanks everyone for your responses! so after taking her to the dr. this morning her regular dr. not the surgen but the sister to the surgen. she said it is all liquid about 20 pounds worth they will put a drain in and have it extracted... today..this happens but not normal..
Glad you have gone to get help. Do hope that all goes well. IBS can cause fluid retention because of the lack of bowel movement. I have been told that IBS can also cause strokes and heart attachs because ofthe shortage of oxygen to the lungs when bloating is severe. I am on the low fodmap diet. is helping a little but havr a longway to go. Have the IBS investigated by a reputable gastroenterologist that listens and just dowsn't say Hioatus hernia
now after 2 weeks my wife has severe extream leakage from her belly button, clear liquid with no smell and no fever. now is this normal? the doc seems to think it is ok ... im just sure...
To my way of thinking, no it is not normal. i would be going and insisting on the Dr ordering an MRI. to see exactlywhat is going on in the inside. i don't like what is happening andif it were me I would be very concerned. Hope you can get some quick attaention. i have never heardoff this before. Dr's make me mad when they say i think !!!!!
No that is not normal. She needs to see
her surgeon.? If she is passing. the gas
then she should be ok but do not eat
and stay on clear liquids till she knows
what it is. If there is rumbling and tinkling noises in her belly then the air is moving
she needs to get up and move around or turn from side to side if she thinks the air
is just stuck but if she is distended with
no air passing and the belly is hard and firm
she should go to the Emergency Room ASAp she could have a perforation. Good Luck
