Hi,
Just been for results of my CT scan after surgery in April followed by a fall and ongoing pain. Apparently no fractures which is good but they are now saying my pain is from impingement and have put me on Gabapentin to treat nerve pain!! They say I have to give it time.
My question is doesn’t impingement mean trapped! And if I have a trapped nerve how are tablets going to free it?. I don’t want to be popping pills for the rest of my life.
Anyone else had same problem and if so what was the outcome. My pain at night is terrible and I can’t lift my leg to get in car, stairs are also painful and it feels as if I have a tight band round the top of my leg.
Hi I was put on gapspentin after my op it’s to take down the swelling of the nerve I was only taking this for 2 weeks it’s a slow release painkiller I was advised to take it a couple of hours before bed so I wouldn’t have pain and to take it the same time each day
Dear Lesley
Very sorry to hear this. Just out of interest as I'm sure others will be interested what approach did your surgeon use?
Cheers Richard
Is an antinflamatry as well then?
Anterior Richard. I’m beginning to wish I’d never had it done. 😢
Dear Lesley
Thanks for that. Was the approach you had yours or was it your surgeon's choice? Trouble is if you need a THR then not having it done is not really an option.
A couple of months or so ago I posted about my neighbour who was too frightened to have his hip done and became very crippled as a result.
Hope the pain goes away.
Cheers Richard
You and I may have the same problem. I hate when they try to fix it with pills. I was on duloxetine for 2 years at the beginning it help alleviate pain but I was on maximum strength and still with pain. I told my dr I was going to stop so he helped me wean off. Dr don’t realize that prescription leads to people getting hooked. They want to fix with pills.
Yes but I was told u can only take them for a short period of time I also took paracetamol with them
It was my surgeons choice. I had no choice in the matter. And I was in a lot of pain before op but I was really hoping I would be pain free now.
Exactly what I don’t want. And having read the side effects Gabapentin has I didn’t really want to start taking them but I will have to give it a go. The pharmacist told me that I didn’t want to be taking them for longer then a fortnight!! Yet a friend of mine has been on them years!! Makes you question things?!!
Lesley, I had Gabapentin, was brilliant, had it after I had nerve taken out in foot. I had nerve damage following RTHR and was put on Amitriptyline which was brilliant too.
I had no side effects from gabapentin and the relief was very good very quickly, I took them for around 4 weeks.
We wouldn't take anything if we took note of all side effects. Like you I don't believe in taking tablets for the sake of it but I was in too much pain not too. Let us know how you get on.
Hi Leslie. I had anterior hip replacement 9 months ago and its been a nightmare. I put up a couple of posts because of horrible groin pain. Im on 3rd cortisone shot. Triec everything. Surgery is next.. Pills won't work for impingement cuz as soon as you stop pills your hip joint will just start scraping tissues again.
I think the anterior approach has created tons if other problems.
