Hip pain

I had a total hip replacement  June 25th of this yr. I am 56 yrs old.The pain is almost gone on the outer part of my leg where the incision is but I have terrible groin pain ( where the ball of the hip is ) it feels almost like a VERY bad pulled muscle which sometimes I can't even walk is this common I have a follow up appoint with surgeon Sept 9th. and am expected to return to work sept 18th  wondering what could be goiung on??? Thanks

Hi Rita ~

I've had nerve damage after one of my auto accidents plus a gamut of other things but I'll address the nerves.  The second accident was last year and the pain I'm suffering from is the constant pain in my right groin.(by the way, in both accidents the car behind me wasn't paying attention and rammed into be going 40-50 mpr...both accidents exactly the same situation...wht are people thinking...you can look out the side of your window and not pay attention to the cars in front of you)

Anyway! my pain doctor has sent me for every test possible however, the final test he's sending me on is a myleogram and I've had that after my first accident and it's extremly painful.  I've asked to put me under this time because they go right into your spinal cord and nerves etc...I had nothing for pain the first time and believe me I've never screamed so loud and couldn't control it.  Needless to say, someone slipped up and didn't write the prescription for pain meds with the myleogram.  Why am I talking about this?

My pain doctor who is also an anesthesiologist so this man is very smart and I trust him with my life!  But, he's said he believe some where under the fusion I have on my back that something slipped and it's pressing on one of  my nerves.Preciously the L1 & L2 of the spine.  He's treated every possible way to find the culprit and this is the last dx he can give to me, whatever the myelogram shows.

You sound like you also have a pinched nerve and if that's the case, you are in definite pain...I hear you there!

If your pain doesn't subside say by the middle of this week or until Friday, maybe you can call and ask to be seen eariler.  I'm so sorry you're in so much pain and my prayers go out to you!  Take care, Rita

ps...let me know what your doctor tells you, I'm really curious because I have an appt on August 29th to have that myleogram.

Thank you i will call my dr. tomoroww if this does not subside.

Well, it looks as though the myelogram didn't show anything as far as a nerve under the fusion but I do have other areas that need  addressing like the T section of the spine are all herniated and some more so than others.  I know everyone at one time in their life will most likely get some hernating but before my accident I just so happen to have an MRI of the lumbar/sacrel and there weren't any buldges etc...So, after this meylogram it does show the doctor that it's the hip that is the problem.  They also found some other issues but not pertaining to this discussion.

I'm wondering how you've been making out?  Still in a lot of pain?

Keep us posted, please?

Hi

Rita ~

Curious as to what  the doctor's have told you regarding the right groin pain?  I'm still having a very hard time walking because of this pain.  I believe it may be the hip but like I said, curious as to what you're being told.  It always helps hearing from someone who is experiencing a similar situation.

Thank you

Hello.  I see this discussion is over a year old but just wanted to reply as I had a THR on my left hip in Sept. 2015 and have had continuous pain in my left groin to knee.  Its hard to walk on that side especially after a flare up.  Those are usually caused by bending over at any degree or when there is any stability on that leg by itself.  Im losing more strength in that entire hip glute and thigh.  I was quite active and now have lost the ability by 80%.  Im more and more depressed about it.  Wondering if the hip was the problem or was it another issue because I am worse off now than I was before the THR.

Ill be having a myelogram this coming Tuesday which I am so nervous about the invasive part of it but I believe this is the only test that will give a clear answer to what is my pain source.  ITs either a back problem or its still from the hip.  Ive had every other test imaginable and 2nd and 3rd opinions, no dr has come up with a reason for my pain.
