Hip replacement DEC 17th

Hi all I had my hip replacement in DEC and all is going well x But at the moment I have a real bad heady chesty cold which I just can't seem to shift do you think its because I've recently had surgery feel absoulately drained :-( x any advice or info appreciated my lovlies x

Vanessa,

Is it really that long .... I have had a nasty cough for a month - it really is hanging on, but i'm told by people at work that there are some nasty virus's around at the moment.

I started my phased return to work yesterday ... just 4 hours, but I was shattered after it.

Best wishes

Graham - 🚀💃

Hi Vanessa,

Your body is still working hard, healing your body from that surgery, so your resistance is probably still lowered, as is your ability to fight off a cold.  I do happen to know though, that there is a particularly virulent cold bug going round at the moment.  Most of my family have had it, in fact I asked them not to visit me because they were so poorly and I didn't want it.  Only had my surgery 4 weeks ago and didn't feel I could handle being ill at the same time.

I hope you feel better soon.

Cels x

Thank you Graham x glad your back at work :-) x

Thank you cells :-) xx

without knowing too much about you or your health preferences - I can tell you that my go-to combo is increased Vit C/zinc/probiotics - in BIG quantities (and extra rest, of course, if do-able). Anaesthetic, pain meds, stress, sleep deprivation...I think those could be the culprit for the stubborn cold, for sure.  I'd do 3,000-4,000 mg Vit C, 30-40 mg zinc and a handful of probiotic capsules per day 'til you're better.

There are a lot of viruses around, including flu at the moment, and they seem to last a few weeks. We are still testing several samples daily for flu and get a fair number of positives.

Vanessa have you been to the dr? My symtoms were identical and I was diagnosed with 'swine' flu - which is basically a respiratory flu. This will take weeks if not months to shift. My husband then came down with it, and had antibiotics and recovered well although his chest was really bad for ages. Both my children have had the same thing for the last few weeks, I gave them antibtiotics straight away (having vowed only as a last resort) so that anitbiotics some potency. My youngest has asthma so there is no way I am going to wait until she is really ill.

The bottom line is that this flu thing takes so long to recover. My friend's healthy children have taken 5 weeks off school, even in very healthy adults it is taking a month at least.

For once, I don't think this is connected to our surgery, although this will slow down our response I agree, the flu thing is completely draining. Take time off, drink lots of fluids, get some advice (antibiotics if you want to fast track) and get well soon lovely x

Hi  Maggie,

Interesting !!!  In your opinion, does a flu-shot help? and what is the best way to get better ?

So far I was not affected , but people around me are so sick from "something" - One friend has this nasty cough for about 8 weeks now -

are you back 100% ?

Thanks for still visiting and sharing -

big warm hug

renee

A flu shot helps against flu only. In the UK the gab contains the seasonal flu A, flu A H1N1 and flu B. The season is later this year than usual.

I am nearly a year in and have got myself back, but still like to read the posts.
