Hello

Just wanting peoples opinions of when you can use a normal seat?

For me, hip precautions (which included riser), no bending over, no leg crossing were 10-12 weeks . Wish you luck!

My precautions were for 12 weeks. I still used the raised toilet seat for probably another 6 weeks or so just due to comfort. I was sitting in normal chairs at probably 4 weeks but no soft couches until later.

Just wondering what people did if they went back to work at 7 weeks? Surely they dont take their loo seat with them. I work in a sedentary job so am going back when i will be 7-8 weeks.

Depends on your surgeon’s advice - mine was 6 weeks.

I’ve had both hips replaced with the R-THR being more difficult than the L-THR, so though I was advised at 6 weeks that it would be ok, I actually couldn’t. However, the second op was a breeze and I had all restrictions lifted at 4 weeks!

How large is the company you work for? I would have thought the provision of a raised loo seat was fairly easy and possibly a legal requirement theses days

Being a guy, I only have to sit for one type of restroom trip and I would handle that at home in the morning. the couple occasions I had to sit at work, I used the handicap stall. I was able to not break 90 degrees by using the support bars in that stall.

Take a cushion with you lilylou. I had twelves weeks precautions and kept a cushion in the car so I always had one to take into restaurants etc.,

For me it was about 4 weeks. I do have a raiser on the toilet and I use it all the time THP or no THR. I also use a walker and that helps me get out of any chair that may be too low or soft.

HI thank you for your responses. As we are in different countries there will not be the same legal requirements.
I like the idea of taking a cushion out until the 12 week mark and i may consider renting an extra toilet seat for another 6 weeks.
Whilst i was aware of the 6 week restrictions i wasnt so aware that some of those restrictions possibly carry on until 12 weeks…
