I accidentally hit my acrylic nail against the cabinet causing it to lift my real nail bed and I think it also pushed my nail bed passing my cuticle. As you can see from the pictures, I believe that is my nail that should be under my skin. Should I keep it covered until the nail grows--of course I will put peroxide on twice a day. What should I do? Someone please help
I would be ideal to get the acrylic nail removed so that you get a better idea of the damage. Then just keep the real nail short so that it doesnt catch on anything and so tear off. Not really any need for peroxide as long as you keep your hands thoroughly washed.
Thank you for responding. I would take the acrylic off, but it still attached to the real nail, which is pulled off from the nail bed area. I figured since nails grow, my acrylic would eventually come off like in 3 weeks. That's why I cut the acrylic off as short as I could, put hydrogen peroxide, and covered it in bandages so, like you said, it wont catch on anything and lift it anymore. If you see the picture, what freaked me out was the fact that upon hitting it, the nail plate either ripped my skin near the cuticle causing it to be visible or the nail plate is sitting on top of my skin. That area itself doesnt hurt just the nail bed.
Again, thanks for the response though.
omg this has just happened to me ,it looks the exact same !!!! half of the nail is ripped of but the other half is on what did you do? To fix it ??? It hurts really bad
omg the are exact thing happened to me, i went to a place that’s kind of a hospital but they do walkins for little things. Anyways they just cut in to my cuticle and took the nail completely out however, i was wondering how long it took for your nail to grow back?
Omg my nail literally looks the same from play fighting with my bf and he fell on my finger it hurt super bad but my cuticle is pushed a little more down like it's bigger but it's the same finger and my real nail is detached from the bed it's stuck on the acrylic nail like only the "body part" the sides are still attached to the nail bed so I don't know what to do it hurts sooo bad!!!
hi this happened to me today, i hit my nail on the door and my nail looks excatly like yours. what did you do to make it better
I've done the exact same thing today and also have acrylics on! I have cut the acrylic down and put it in hot water. What else can I do?
Had this exact thing happen about a week ago. DO NOT TAKE THE NAIL OFF AND DO NOT USE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE!!!! Mine was a little worse than the picture, went to the ER. They deadend my finger and pushed it back into the cuticle. Wash lightly with antibacterial soap daily and wrap with gauze. Try best to keep the nail pressed on finger to avoid further removal. Keeping the nail on creates better chances of it growing back regularly. Should feel painless in about 2 weeks and should be fully grown back in about 3 months
what ended up happening with this? same thing just happened to my daughter
well same thing happened to me today n i just ran it under cold water n put a band-aid over it it looks sideways like that not as bad but should i just leave it alone n let the acrylic n real nail grow out

Same thing happened to me last month, I let the skin underneath heal a bit and then cut down the nail so it wouldn't lift. I'm worried that it might have damaged that side of the nail matrix. For those that experienced this a while ago, did your nail grow back and how long did it take. I just told my boyfriend I'm freaking out because I don't wanna be missing a nail for the rest of my life. I'm hoping since only one side ripped out the nail matrix is not too badly damaged...
hi, this just happened to me. im wondering hows the nail going and what did you do up until now. im just a bit nervous about my own!
Has it fallen off yet? How is it healing? I had this injury on the 22nd.
How long did it take to fall off? Has your nail grown back/healed? This just happened to me. The ER did the same thing to me.
its been two weeks since this happened to my finger. as of now it is growing out and the nail that should not be showing is lifting against my skin. I’m not too worried as nails grow back and it doesnt look infected. there is not much that has happened so far. i just made sure to rinse it and cut the nail as short as possible.
I've recently done it myself I just plastered the nail down
will my own nail grow back ? a nurse said it might not :(File size is too big
This thread is really helping cos I hit my thumb against a wall today and I have a feeling that the whole nail is affected. i tried to sleep and it is so damn painful! What can I use to ease the pain? I think when the pain subsides I will have to cut the acrylic nail shorter.
