I am scheduled for march 25th and doctor said I will get intravenous sedation.
It’s what I had, a lighter version of what you’d have for, say, a colonoscopy. For my first eye I was aware of what was going on, but completely relaxed and indifferent. For the second eye I was more out of it, but both times it wore off pretty quickly and by the time I got home I felt fine.
They might give you something by IV but its not a general. You’ll be awake.
I have had both eyes done. The first was in a public hospital and I got the IV sedation. I was just barely aware of what was going on. After surgery they insisted on taking me out to my car in a wheelchair. My wife drove me home. The second eye was done in a private clinic and I got an Ativan tab before surgery. I was much more aware with this method and it really was not uncomfortable. I just walked out of the clinic after they put a patch over it, and if push came to shove I could have driven home by myself, but I followed instructions and my wife drove me home.

Bottom line is that either way works. In a hospital they have the anesthesiologist on staff and can do IV. In a private clinic they obviously do not want to keep one on staff, and just use a nurse to administer the Ativan.
