is anyone else here allergic to honey?? i have had anaphylactic reaction. Just wondering how you eat out…i have such anxiety after visiting a restaurant who i told about my allergy but thought because they didnt use honey it was ok but there was honey in the prepackaged salad dressing!!!
it’s a tricky issue allergies to foods when eating out or grocery shopping in the boxed food and prepared food sections. although it is a ingredient used with foods, honey is not a main ingredient in many foods pre-prepared or restaurant’s. It’s not always a concern as other ingredients but always better to ask about prepared foods/restaurant’s or read ingredients carefully listed on other foods purchased. Especially since honey can be a main ingredient in salad dressing , maybe stick to vinegar type dressings or if unsure have the dressing put in a side container and bring your own.
Do you know whether honey is the underlying issue or just the trigger for a reaction? I ask because I have allergy/sensitivity issues, including a number of basic foodstuffs, that underly reaction to altogether different and uncontrollable allergens.
I was advised by a consultant who argued that often allergic reactions result from the body’s immune system being overloaded by any number of allergens such that an additional allergen (in your case honey?) will trigger a sometimes severe reaction. It then follows that if some allergens could be eliminated the ‘trigger’ effect can be alleviated or eliminated.
If you haven’t already done so, my advice would be to get yourself tested for a wide range of potential allergens and then ELIMINATE as many as is practically possible.
Totally eliminating dairy produce, some vegetable types, refined sugars and other stuff from my diet changed my life and the lives of those who had to suffer me! It isn’t easy but has been worth both the cost and effort required.
