Can anyone advise when I would be able to start doing some ironing, I will be 6 weeks post op for A&P prolapse tomorrow, thank you ladies
Ironing? Doesn't exist in my house. I lost my iron once. My daughter came to me to ask me to heat her Hama beads and I couldn't find it - and I don't live in a big house!!
I would think ironing would be possible if you feel you could lift the iron. Could somebody manouevre the ironing board for you as I would think it would be more awkward than the actual ironing
Hi Carolyn,
Personally I waited till around 7/8 weeks before ironing, I also have a very lightweight iron. I only done about half a dozen items (for school) and then gradually increased amount!
You could do the ironing while sitting if that's easier. However every one heals at different rate and you will know yourself if your ready or not; and always best to just try a little when introducing something new for first few times and see how it goes, your body will tell you if it's too much.
Hope you are progressing, look after you self
Phyl x☺
Thanks Phyl, that's what I was wondering, might leave it until next week then, not really my favourite past time anyway, might try driving this week see how that goes.
Oh no, six weeks far too soon for ironing! At least a year or more before a heavy iron can be lifted - same with hoovering, changing bed linen, cleaning ..............
It's far to early carolyn wait until about 10 weeks.
Carolyn, would be best to get referal to a physiotherapist, and she/he will be able to tell you how strong your pelvic floor is and guide you through what you are able to do and when!
I had intensive physio after a hysterectomy and anterior repair 3 years ago. So this time will read up on Michelle kenway.

I personally couldn't lift the iron and when I did start to do a few bits at around ten weeks I got just cheap light weight one temporarily. X
Jowls, if I ever have to go through thus again I am booking into an all inclusive hotel for 3 months. Doing nothing for 6 months and raking a year out of work. Don't know how I will afford it though. Will have to win the lotto, I was always told when I was young to make sure I married someone with plenty money and servants, rebellious teenager that I was I done the opposite.
Would be nice though to be able to retire, and be able to prevent further prolapse!

The info in my aftercare pack says at least 12 weeks, but I would get advise from your physio. My Gynae's advise to me has been if I need to ask if I can, then I am not ready. ( I am one week post op, I am not ready for anything! )
Thanks matron, I'll refrain for a while longer.
That's good advice pearl!
Make the post of it and even at 10-12 weeks see how you feel.
I have an exceptionally good gynae, he says ' if you are tired, sleep, if you are hungry eat, your body is your best guide, listen to it. look upon your recouperation as a sabbatical, time to read those books and watch those films without guilt!' I went through Bupa for my operation this time (only because of timescales and my plans), but I have had treatment from this man on the NHS too and he is no different, he is a true gent, one of the old school consultants who has time to listen.
☺☺☺ very wise!
I've not had any advice or mention of a physio
You probably won't carolyn and there's probably no need for you to see a physio so don't worry. I didn't and it's not usual practice for ladies to be referred post op either. A physio is most useful when a lady doesn't want or can't have surgery and then only if it's a specialist physio specially trained in pelvic floor.
Thank you matron.
I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op for cycstocele and rectocele repair with sacrospinous fixation. I'm 45 years old a and actually feel fine and well enough to go back to work but I'm signed off for 6 weeks so won't be going back til then. I do feel a bit swollen and slight pulling inside and a throbbing pain in my right buttock but other than that I am pain free. I have finally mastered the laxative dosage and when is best to take it for me and how much so no problems going to the bathroom either. I don't need painkillers on a daily basis. I am 3 stones overweight so not particularly fit or active either but not slow at doing things either. I be been out about 3-4 times since leaving hospital. Last week I started making the dinners again and this week I've done some dusting and laundry but only lifted small bundles of clothes at a time. I've ironed a couple of times but again only 3-4 things at any given time. I had a rectocele repair 6 years ago that was life changing for me for the better but sadly began failing about a year ago. I admit I'm very independent and like to do things for myself like building flat pack, moving furniture, putting up curtain rails etc but I will limit myself from now on and don't want to put this repair at jeopardy. I was also a career for my mum before she died last year and it was hard work pushing her about in s wheelchair as she was overweight as well. I like to keep moving to avoid blood clots as I'm not keen on the stockings but I do sit with my feet up for about 10 of the 14 hours I'm up a day.
Hello liz you are doing quite a bit considering you are only 2 weeks post op. I don't know whether you've see the Pinned Post on the Genitourinary home page but it's got lots of excellent advice and links to online information. Alan the moderator for this website put it together a few weeks ago and it is very useful. The ladies on this forum are very supportive and helpful as well. Please take things easy.
