Cold sore on the top of mouth is basically healed (see photo attached, top lip on the right side of the photo), but I felt a strange feeling in my genital area so I wanted to check if there were any bumps/sores to make sure I hadn’t contracted genital herpes as well. I used a q-tip to clean the area before I looked, but stupidly enough, I wet the q-tip with my saliva. My tongue didn’t touch my cold sore when I put it on the q-tip, but how likely is it that I will now have hsv-1 in my genital area? Can herpes be transmitted very easily for saliva, or usually more direct contact?
