How long does Amitripyline take to work for pain relief

Just wondered if anyone has experience of how long it takes for Amitryptyline to work for pain relief. 10 mg per night? I have taken it 5 nights and not noticed a difference yet.

I was prescribed this but it didnt do anything as a pain reliever - it did help me sleep which meant I wasnt waking up all night in pain.  I stopped taking it however because it caused wild and weird dreams and very mild daytime visions.

Hi. It should work the same night you take it really. Maybe you should ask your doctor to up the dosage.

What is the cause of the pain you are trying to relieve?  I'd be cautious about increasing doses of something which didn't seem to work.  Some of these modern medicines can have bad side effects.  Amitriptyline is an antidepressant.
