how long does it take to heal pancreas completely after diagnosed with acute pancreatitis

Recently I've been diagnosed with alcoholic acute pancreatitis.how long does it take to heal pancreas completely.

How long I've to follow low fat diet? Can I eat again high fat food in my life? Can I take drinks again in my life?

I've really no idea. Currently I'm following very low fat diet.

Hi,creon25000,your pancreas will never totally heal,it's up to you to take the pressure of the pancreas to stop it becoming chronic pancreatitis which I have and it's no picnic, keep following your diet and I'm afraid you will have to stop drinking .im sure you don't want to experience that sort of pain again,if you keep drinking you will have pain every day and believe me I've been to hell and back with chronic pancreatitis, stay strong ,all the best

The hospital told me it is not reversalble, I have chronic Pancreatist,Gallstone, and cysts. My medication is Creon 25000,Tramadol, Morphine. I have had mine for 5 years and follow a low fat diet,I'm sorry to say no alcohol as far I'm aware.

Hi David,

I agree with everything you say, the pain is horrendous I've only just got over a bad flare up. I can't add anything to your advice but its reassuring to know we aren't alone. Take care.

Hi corrinne, you are not alone with this disease,I too have just recovered from a bad flare up,you think it's never going to get better, two years ago I was nine stone ,now I am thirteen and learning to live with this horrible disease, hope you are keeping well and just to say 40000 has helped me a lot

This is a life changing condition. Low fat diet and no alcohol are the norm. As others have said the damage is done learning to live with the disease is hard as hell. You will find you can't do things you used

To . you think its getting better then out the blue it will remind you your not

Hi David,

Thanks for advise. It scares me that I can't heal totally.

I've already stopped alcohol and ciggarates. I'm not going to touch it again in my whole life. So I thought my pancreas will heal totally after completely quiting alcohol and cigarrates.

Sorry to hear that you have chronic pancreatitis. I wish you healthy and pain free life. Really sorry to hear. How old are you corinne? How acute got converted to chronic. take care corinne

It really scares me. thanks for advise

It is frightening, getting your head round having a life changing illness.everyday is different, could be a good day a bad day or a just OK day.channel that fear into action, because you can make a difference.what you eat drink,or do makes a huge impact on this horrid disease.

Don't forget about dehydration cp sufferers need more fluid is water intake than other folk.

Eat little and often.

No alcohol chocolate, spicy hot food,no fat and no diary all helps me.

You can make a difference.I have,I can't say its gone, but its much better since I've made all these changes.hope it works for you.

Hi Cathy,

Thanks very much for your valuable advise.

Do you have acute or chronic. How did you got? and what age you got?

long story but here goes.

Aug 2012 admitted to hospital rt upper and central epigastric pain.thought it was gallbladder. Had US scan and found 2 cysts in tail pancreas.

lots of pain, weight loss, upper rt sided pain, diarrhoea.had biopsy taken from cysts in sept 2012..benign serous adrenomas. severe pain, not eatting much.had gall bladder out 2014 march as not working correctly and specialist hought gallbladder might be reason for pain.

Gallbladder was inflammed but no stones found.

had several months of little pain, but could have been due to not eatting much and gallbladder out.

then pain started to get bad and bad up and down.

more cysts found.

dec 2014 collection cysts across pancreas, benign largest 4cm.

Jan 2015 large cyst burst, dirt and fluid from cyst infected my LIVER and i got non virus Hepatitis, which i am still getting over.

Jan 2015 adnmitted  to hospital with A.pancresitis and hepatitis

since then several more pancresitis attacks..C.pancresitis.

Last week had CT scan and awaiting results.

So currently off sick, not sure what future will be like, and i am 55 background non smoker, non alcohol, slim, healthy eatter, walk 1plus hours a day.so why did i get this???

Thanks for your reply, any more advice/thoughts welcomed.

Hi Cathy,

I'm feeling very sad by reading your post. I'm crying now. Why god did like this to you. I deserve my A.Pancreatitis because of my bad habits like alcohol but you did nothing wrong. It must not happen to you. Stay strong Cathy. I wish you very healthy life. Take Care Cathy

This feb 2015 I have been nursing 37 years. And in that time I've met so many folk suffering with a wide variety of horrid illnesses. I believe no one deserves illness.it happens. That includes mental health illness as well as physical, emotional, spiritual and addiction illnesses.

Personally I have a strong faith that comforts and supports me,and gives me a good kick up the bum when I so often need it.

So I hope you can reduce or stop the drinking and bad lifestyle choices you made in the past and find comfort and support to manage your life and illness today.its never to late to change and a lot of good support out there such as samarathons, churches, self help groups, etc etc.I hope this helps.keep in touch.

Hi creon

Thank you for replying to me,first thing to say is I am 64 years old. I have no idea how It all started because I was unwell for about a year before being diagnosed,I had a blood clot in my lung and a stroke. It explained the pain in my chest at the time but after I recovered the pain in my left side under my ribs continued. I had lost a lot of weight I just didn't want to eat. Then without any reason I collapsed and was rushed to hospital they did every test that they could. Then the shock came from the speciallist, that I had chronic Pancreatis. I naturally asked questions and was told I was one of unlucky  ones. Well as we know the pain got unbelievable worse, they then found I had 5 cysts (one burst on a biopsy, another one burst recently) and a gallstone. They put me on Creon, Tramadol and morphene and a lot more medications. I have an appointment due, where I need more information as I'm finding it hard to go on sometimes. Thanks again we all need to carry on.Corinne.

Its hard because of the lack of advise and the lack of Doctors with any knowledge.

No one deserves nor when its idiopathic is it easy it understand

This is a life changing disease that limits everything on life. Best things you can do is low fat diet ie 5℅ per 100g and take it easy and remember that you are not as fit as you where

Thanks very much cathy. I appreciate your valuable advise.

I already promised my wife that I quit alcohol completely in this life.
