How much walking should I be doing at four weeks,my dear hippies?

How long can or should be walking without crutches, I feel as though I am not doing enough. My op leg drags alot xx

Hi Tina

I'm not walking without crutches yet,

i'm down to one mostly. you must listen to your body and not push too much xx

Kim

So many variables Tina but my opnion is not quantity but quality. Head up straight and work on that limp. The faster you get rid of the limp the quicker you get back to normal. My hip was done about 14 months ago and I have forgotten that I ever had an operation

Hi Tina,

I was not allowed to walk unaided (crutches, cane or walker) until 6-7 weeks post-op - Still too hard on the (my) body and I kept limping ...

then graduated to one cane outside until limp-free   -

How are you getting on otherwise, darling?

big warm hug

renee

it is different for everybody - do you have PT

Four weeks is nothing your body will tell you but I understand that until you have had your review and physio you should be using your crutches.

I was lucky, and didn't have to use crutches. I also only used the walker for a couple of weeks. My choice was the cane, as I had been using that "crutch" for over a year. Having compromised for so many years, I was very lucky. PT for a few weeks, and now visit the gym 2-3 times per week. Love the recumbent bike, and then get on the treadmill for 15 minutes. My physical therapist had me on the treadmill, and had me walk in front of a mirror to see how I walked. Now I am fully aware of my gait. My awesome surgeon keep the length of my legs rather close, as well. From others who have experienced this surgery, (like andy90315), give it a year, and you should be right back to business!

As much as you feel comfortable with - we all heal at different rates, try not to compare your recovery too much.

In my website blog, I see I was doing about three-quarters of a mile, I was not off sticks (canes) but I was fully weight bearing and free of all OA pain.

Hi kim, yes I agree I over did it today really achy now xx

I am 4 weeks Bilateral THR and would love to be without my crutches but patience is a virtue (Something I am having to learn)..... I have good days and bad days still.  Whatever I do my exercises and a walk each day.   Today I thought I had taken my meds at lunch time and wondered why walking was so difficult this afternoon, only to find my meds still sitting on the table!!!

oh elaine ..... I hope you were able to give yourself a big hug ///

we are all working so hard to do the right thing -continue to be gentle with yourself, okay ....

all good signs though - easy does it, darling

Thank you I learnt a lesson... after Saturday I am taking it easier.... today will be my first day going out as it has taken me that long to recover from over doing it.    Not doing alot just need to escape from Cabin Fever...
