How much walking

I'm on day 8 post op and wonder if I should be walking more. Restricted to indoors becausevof wet ground and just doing hallway through kitchen 4 to 5 times daily.

Hi Attractac,

well as I remember I was walking to the end of my street once a day , but everyone is different, just do what your body tells you, if you feel fine walking to the end of the road then go for it, I measured it in lamp posts, first day to the 3rd and then add a lamp post a day lol,

good luck,

take care,

Lynne.

sounds good for a start, I was indoors for the whole six weeks, going round in circles, hall, kitchen, sitting room, bedrooms, even riding in a car was banned,

I am still afraid of walking wet ground,

hiya - Do what you can and stop when it hurts - thats your body asking for rest . I have been far more conservative than the first time round 18 months ago and slept better as a result. I am 14 days in and i am turning a corner - walking round garden and house only and lots of rest, with no guilt or pressure. I am only 52 and v fit usually and dashing around. So being patient  has taken some learning - but after unresolved complications arising from first hIp replacement 18 months ago - I have learned to slow down.

If you don the superman or superwoman pants too early then its very hard to take them off and get more help on board again. So save the lyrca outfit til the swelling and bruising is down and you are ready to cut a dash.

In the meantime - be kind to yourself x

Sounds good to me, build it up gradually and wait till the ground is dry before venturing out.

Hi what does your physio say? We are all different.I walked round and round the house for the first two weeks then up and down stairs each day!listen to your body! We are all different! Regards Amanda

I was more or less indoors for the first 3 weeks except for forays into the garden.

Hi attractac

I was outside a couple of days out of hosp as weather was nice. We have a very long flat drive from our house, so just did little landmarks every few days till I got to the end of it. Now just keep going up and down more times. Just gives you a bit of confidence when you want to go out somewhere, but you need to do what you feel comfortable with and only you can decide that. Exercise is exercise at the end of the day!

Good wishes Linda xx

I questioned my physio and my consultant on this only today and they both said there are no hard and fast rules everyone is different and to listen to your body.. The consultant said with a grin on his face that even the new hip will wear out if I climb everest lol. Listening to you own body and how you feel is the most important thing... Hope this helps Love Gill xxxx

I was stuck indoors as have a steep drive, up a steep hill, so it was just around the house.

 Keep up with your landmarks

Exactly one week after surgery my at-home therapist had me take a walk down the street.  I had graduated from the walker to the cane at that time.   The following day we walked a block. I think the more walking you do the more the muscles in your thing build up.

Looks like your doing well for eight days post op.

Thanks to all. Walked to the third house from mine today and back as it a short flat bit before the incline. I found this enough and that I had to watch out for stones on path even these can put me off balance. Nice to get fresh air tho. I think I'll just do as people say and listen to my body. Thanks to all again.

Try not to push it too much too soon.your right listen to your body. nothing else let's you know how elk your healing.

hey Gill,

here's the pic, it won't let me send it in the private message xx

I'm day 9 and have been doing a little more each day.started on a stick yesterday but it's hard to use first thing in the morning when I'm all stiff. I'm heading down beach today to walk on the flat and intend on doing a start stop sort of walk. Sounds like you're making good progress too 👍

that looks so good, you surely arn't going to eat all that yourself? I'm going to make the other cake next week xx

Ooooh, Lynne, that looks good
