I am now 6 months post LTHR and can do almost anything but the “fly in the ointment”, is cutting my toe nails on operated side. I do have long legs (inside leg measurement is 34 inches) and gave rise to my childhood nickname of “Dolly long legs”! 😱
During the past few months I have become a contortionist but to no avail, left toenails remain elusive. Any hints and tips as to how other hippies manage this once simple task gratefully received. Have a good weekend everyone, for me it is the Belgium Grand Prix 🏁 so a happy bunny. Dot X
You could make appt with a podiatrist and they would cut your toe nails for you, you could ask at local surgery and they will give you a phone no of one local to you
Hi Marilyn, I have been going to a podiatrist but my nails grow so fast and need cutting at least once a week so I am desperate to do it myself, I have no problem with the right foot so its costly to go every week.
I go beyond the 90 degree now as I am 3.5 months since my hip op and I don't have any problems with bending its crouching and kneeling that I have problems with and standing longer than 15 minutes in one go, I am waiting to have the other hip done hopefully in nov/dec I do use nail flippers and I can tie shoe laces and put on socks no problem
Thank you Jodi, wayhoo I can do it, also thank you to everyone else for your sugestions, even medics need tips 😉 Have a lovely weekend everyone, Oh and Lewis got pole at the Belgium GP so toe nails cut and my boy on pole so life is good. Hugs to all, Dot xx
I did laugh at your post title - culling toenails! I also am an advocate of dragging the foot up the bed although the baby toe remained a bit elusive for a little while. When I saw my consultant last week (at 7 weeks post op) he said there was nothing wrong in pulling the foot up towards your bum and letting the knee fall out to the side a little to tackle the toes although doing the opposite (knee inwards and foot twisting out to side) was completely illegal!
Oh, and my partner has also had a crash course in painting my toenails - one must keep the standards up - hahah.
I'm on 2 crutches permanently, 2 THR's etc so no way can I get to my feet to cut my nails. The GP organised appointment with a podiatrist....Just for nail cutting ....nothing else. The appointments are far apart and I just try to file at them even if its only one or 2 a day in between times
This is also how I put on shoes & socks. However I am a barefoot type of girl & didn't wear them much. Even months later I would put socks and shoes on this way, it was just so much easier.
